Server and Forum Changes

Some big changes are planned which will require the forum to become read only for a short while, this will include:
A change in servers.
A reset to a vanilla version of the forum software to solve some of the long term issues experienced with this version.
This announcement will be updated when I have a clearer timeline.

Really not trying to oversell this, in order to fix issues and do updates the software will need to revert to standard phpBB with no modifications or shiny features. It will not be possible to transfer the entire forum intact and so the old one will be archived and linked and we will basically have a fresh start except that the membership will transfer intact. Sorry about that but this the only effective way to fix issues years in the making.
I am not promising something beautiful and exciting, just a basic and functional format to maintain the community.

Yes this feature seems fixed so far and was done as part of the warm up to moving the domain. We are trying to restore and maintain functionality prior to server move.

Current plan is to continue some tidying up and move servers on the 1st October. Expect some disruption and or downtime.
It looks like archiving and starting from scratch now plan B.
Plan A is to maintain as much as possible of current format and update the phpBB version after the move and also update the SSL certification.

Servers are cheaper than they used to be, is all paid up till mid next year. Current cost is time and effort only.

Thanks Kiore, and anyone else involved, for that time and effort! Even if the servers are paid up and the costs sorted... maybe we could plausibly show our appreciation by sending some booze funds your way?

I'm happy to throw a few shekels into the bowl if it's required. I've learned so much from being a member here. This place is one of the few sane, informative and worthwhile sites left on the interwebzes. Hack's site being another.

The contributions derail is appreciated, however a decision was made to "do the stuff" first rather than accept funding for a thing that might not happen. This is still a work in progress and the final step complex, so maybe the time to discuss contributions is once things are running and actual costs are clear.

In other updates, well I don't know how it looks from your side, but from my side some serious improvements in functionality.
I know I indicated the server move might occur 1st October (GMT) but some last minute other options have presented themselves, so this remains pending and in progress
