Afghanistan Foxholes

#1  Postby Weaver » May 02, 2010 7:14 pm

So I've been on the ground here in Afghanistan a couple weeks now, and I've had a chance to look around a bit. Couldn't help but notice a couple factoids related to that obnoxious claim that there are no atheists in foxholes.

1) Our side doesn't have any fucking foxholes. We have guard towers, and HESCO bunkers, and various other sorts of above-ground fighting positions - but there's no foxholes.

2) The insurgents, on the other hand, have tons of the damn things! One great way to tell that the insurgents have taken a village over is to observe the construction of the foxholes on the side nearest the road. Hell, just today we had a patrol that observed someone shoot at them with an RPG, then saw a number of fighters head to a foxhole to continue shooting with small arms.

So it suddenly became clear to me - there may indeed not be very many atheists in foxholes, but here, at least, there are plenty of Muslims!

Wonder what the US fundie crowd would think of THAT?

Start using napalm & flame-throwers. Isn't there some bollox in the koran about not burning bodies 'cos then they can't get into paradise?

Flame weapons are massively restricted these days - fine by me, they are poor target discriminators and not very cost effective, besides being almost a guarantee of failure in the COIN fight.

Besides, these days I'm almost more interested in combatting fundie Christians than fundie Muslims. ;)

(Verbally, if not through force of arms anyways!)
