Thanks, all - it was a decent day here. Surfed the Internet all day (as usual - amazing what you can do when you've made a smooth-running machine out of your section) then a decent dinner (steak, crab legs, fried scallops - all kinda cold, but better than the normal fare), washed down with a non-alcoholic Becks beer, and I even ate an ice cream bar for dessert.

Unfortunatley, poor planning on my part led me to reveal my birthday to a couple of my officers earlier in the day, and they made an announcement in the chow hall. Which, of course, led to everyone singing that stupid song (off key, as is de rigour).

Now I have to figure out how to get revenge - I'm thinking that I'll probably make a similar announcement for their birthdays.

Even if I have to lie about the dates.

On the good side, I found out that I won't have to wait until August to move over to the Norwegian base as a liason - I'll be heading over in just a couple days, as soon as my replacement arrives. Much better food, better base, more space, and better views. Good news for me, for sure.

I have it on good authority that they don't do cheesy popcorn!

Happy birthday man! I'm having an alcohol free Becks myself, not too bad actually tastes the best of all the beer free beers I've tried. Maybe the Norwegians can spike yours for you or are they on the wagon over there too?

Nah, the Norwegians are on the wagon as well - but they have a MUCH better rotational plan than we do. They're only over here for 6 months, and they get two home-leaves, 14 days each. I am here for a year and I only go home once for 15 days.

Smoked fish, pickled herring - haven't tried them, but just the main course meals and salad bar are massively better than what my current base offers. Plus they have hot coffee - something our idiot cooks think is too hard.

It's not exactly Scottish, though. Rollmops was invented in Germany.
