Heading for a New Foxhole ...

#1  Postby Weaver » Apr 04, 2010 10:26 pm

I'll be on limited-comms for the next few days/weeks - I'm due to deploy to northern Afghanistan in the next couple days.

The good news is this should be my last damn deployment - I'm getting tired of leaving my family behind.

The bad news is there's very limited Internet availability, so I'm going to have to turn off all videos and photos - so I'm looking at a year without LOLcats. :whine:

I first encountered this great group of folks during my last deployment, in Iraq, and I have no doubt that I'll continue to learn great things from you while I'm gone this time. Keep the home fires burning here, and please, please, someone drop me a PM and an e-mail if Robert Byers ever shows up!

Stay safe, everyone - see you soon.

Not so much "joining the operation" - just co-locating where they've been operating for a while. We'll be working very closely with them, but each of us will have our own objectives - my unit is primarily concerned with training the Afghan National Security Forces in our area of operations.

Stay safe! If you run across any Swedes while over there, rest assured that most of them are atheist.

Well, we should have been in Afghanistan by now - but the troubles in Kyrgystan have delayed us. Not sure when or via what route we'll progress from here, but we're getting a fine vacation courtesy of the airport staff in Leipzig, Germany.

Just wish we could depart the controlled area of the airport to see something of the country - or even link up with someone here.

Oh well - sure beats getting shot at!

See you all later ...

Oh man, that airport was always so bland... Not really a vacation. And the gift shop was so overpriced. I hope they cut back on the prices and are at least letting you cut loose a little.

And yeah, my first thought was, "Oh man, there goes Manas!" when I saw the news.

Finally reached my destination!

4 days in Leipzig, followed by 4 more in Kuwait, then the rest in Mazar-e-Sharif (worst living conditions I've seen in a long while there). Good to finally be here. Looks like I've landed a job as liason to the Norweigan PRT (Provincial Reconstruction Team), so sometime soon I'll move over to their base on the other side of the city to live and work. Be good working so closely with allied personnel.
