Scientists created music for cats

#1  Postby aban57 » Mar 12, 2018 1:40 pm

From here :

In the study, the cat songs were played back to 47 domestic cats, and the researchers watched how the felines reacted compared to when they listened to two classical human songs - Johann Sebastian Bach's Air on a G String and Gabriel Fauré's Elegie.

Publishing in the journal Applied Animal Behavioural Science, the team reported that the cats didn't respond at all to the human music.

But when the cat music started up, they became excited and started approaching the speakers, often rubbing their scent glands on them, which means they were trying to claim the object.

While composing music for cats may sound pointless, the research could offer new ways to keep cats calm in shelters, boarding homes and vets

Sample included in the link. It's rather weird to listen, but I guess it's kind of the point :)

There is a rumbling purr in the background, obvious question is whether the rest of the notes are superfluous, or whether just playing a recording of a cat purring could have the same effect.

Once we discover 'what' created scientists, this thread might have a winner. Otherwise, room 101 please. Another load of bollocks.

Evolution by natural selection created humans, who, with their large brains and dextrous hands, and with the help of evolution by natural selection and artificial selection eventually bred plants and animals more tailored to their needs. That freed up their minds to think about more than just mere survival. Yada yada yada and Gallileo and them dudes did some cool shit, and now we have Hubble and DNA sequencing. It's awesome.
Ceiling Cat may have had a paw in it there at some point. At least her minions did.

Ceiling cat provides a bottomless bowl of Meow Mix to all who are worthy to dwell in the rafters of heaven. :shifty:

Meow mix? The meow mix that Ceiling Cat provides in heaven tastes heavenly. So it is written. :teef:
