1. The Ancestor's Tale - Richard Dawkins.
2. The Nine Tailors - Dorothy L. Sayers.

Another re-read, in fact it's been one of my favourite books for many years. Dorothy Sayers took the genre of detective fiction and wrote proper novels in it, and I think this one is the very best. So evocative.

I haven't finished no. 1 yet: keeping it going in parallel. I'll delete it in the unlikely event that I arrive at the end of the year without having finished it.

I'll go for 50 this year.

1. Donnie Brasco - Joseph D. Pistone
2. The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich - William L. Shirer

I'm still half way through the second one...it's a 1600 page beast so might be a while before I finish it.

Very glad to hear it!

Another favourite is Five Red Herrings (though I may be pushing my luck now). Evocative of Kirkcudbrightshire, as The Nine Tailors is of East Anglia.

And I'll tell you what else is evocative of a place, and it's a book that I never would have thought I'd read, but for some reason I did last year: The Riddle of the Sands by Erskine Childers. Very evocative of the mud or sand flats off the Frisian coast.

That's enough evocative now.

"The Bone Clocks" is one of the best things I've ever read. When I hit "next page" on the Kindle and got the "Acknowledgements" page I was gutted.
