New words in your birth year

This was kinda fascinating

For my birth year I was surprised bikini went that far back :naughty2: and also bank card

Some grim ....hydrogen bomb and final solution :(

Many reflective of the technological boom...flying saucer and swim fin ...radio nuclide and radio telescope

Swim fin coming out of the scuba invention and others reflecting the enormous step forward the war effort engendered with radar and jet engines.

Heave-ho I would have thought much older.

The English language just clanks along gaining vocabulary year after like a huge sponge.

Have fun :coffee:

Lol, TV Dinner.

If that doesn't sum up the 50s I don't know what does.

My son said he looked up my year and found the word 'wheel'. I didn't believe him...

I replied that he missed 'stone axe'. :snooty:

My great great great son's birth year lists three words. One of them is 'firestick'. Mine lists just one: 'Ugh'.

Animavore wrote:"anti-aliasing" :eh:

Often (frequently) used in association with 'filter' - a filter that removes high frequency (fh) signals such that their Nyqvist folded frequency components at fh/2 do not get sampled.

The low frequency component is an alias of the high frequency signal. See, e.g. aliasing

I got to clarify my address for the postman. Milky Way galaxy.

Quantum field theory. I actually know what it means now. Unless someone asks me......

The one that stood out for me was Punk Rock.

It would be a journalistic buzzword for a few years before there were any bands actually self-identifying as such, mind you.
