Things I Won't Work WIth (2): Nickel Carbonyl

Breathing it is most unwise, because those CO ligands are not stapled on very well. If they find another metal that appreciates them more, they'll bail out, and an excellent candidate is the iron in your hemoglobin...

Fabulous.

Ah, yes, the good old "liquid death". It's not just the CO ligands that do you in, but also the lovely carcinogenic finely divided nickel that ends up in your bloodstream. If I recall, the lethal dose of it is a few orders of magnitude smaller than what would be expected from the CO content alone.
History repeats itself because most of the people who lived through it the first time and learned from it are dead.

Fabulous.

Bear in mind that Protium Hydroxide is often lethal when inhaled.

When I think of the things I messed with in the undergrad labs, I marvel that I'm still alive!
