Alabama man’s Bible survives devastating house fire

#1  Postby DoctorE » Feb 11, 2019 3:49 pm

:insane: ++
BON SECOUR, Ala. — An Alabama man says that it was a “sign from God” after the Bible that was passed down to him from his grandfather survived a devastating house fire, according to FOX10.
Scot Byrd says the January fire destroyed the Bon Secour home he had lived in for 20 years. However, the Bible remained almost entirely intact.
“The fireman actually came out [of the home] with tears in his eyes and he said, ‘You’re not going to believe this. You’ve got to come see it for yourself,'” Byrd told FOX10. “This Bible did not have one scorch mark on it.”

God saves a book from being burnt in a house fire. Averts eyes from a quarter million humans being killed in a tsunami.

It has to be said that books actually don't burn that well. They'll char a bit on the outside but there's very little air that gets through to oxidize the paper in the middle.

Not having attended any book burnings my experience here is admittedly limited, but my wife once left a cookbook on top of a gas hob for several minutes and yeah, not much damage was done to it. :)

The coasts were awash with thousands of dead, Christian tourists. I suppose most of them were killed by their merciful god on account of their sinfulness, but that is difficult to argue in the cases of the hundreds of babies that were also killed.

So what's it a sign of when someone's copy of Twilight is the only thing to survive a house fire?
Power doesn't corrupt, it reveals. Only when someone is free from constraints and consequences do they show their true character.

I think it is time this was studied scientifically.

I'm thinking double-blind study. randomized remote ignition of bookcases containing religious material, with assorted control texts interspersed for comparison. Bookcases to be packed by blind researchers in the dark wearing sunglasses. Assessment of level of external damage per text to be done after a separate control team has blacked out all external clues as to the nature of each text.

In order to preserve the integrity of the test, all religious material internationally should be submitted for assessment in this manner, and further subjected to furnace incineration after the test in order to check for absolute invulnerability, thus potentially exposing one true text.

Forgive me, but setting up a complicated scientific experiment is hardly likely to convince someone who is unable to distinguish reality from fiction. You’d have to reach the intellectual base camp of teaching them how to think properly before you could even attempt an assault on the summit of explaining why what they think is 100% bullshit. It might be more effective to just set fire to them and suggest the power of prayer as an extinguisher. An extreme approach, I will grant you, but one which would cut straight to the heart of the argument in a way that books do not for people of limited cognitive ability.
That credulity should be gross in proportion to the ignorance of the mind that it enslaves, is in strict consistency with the principle of human nature. - Percy Bysshe Shelley

Any argument that involves burning books has spectacularly bad optics too.
