Civilisation had a reformation. Christianity has been dragged along kicking and screaming and has initially opposed just about every advance; it continues to do so.

At least this pope and others before him admit evolution is a fact, only that god somehow "did it." :roll:

The grand mufti or whoever is the big honcho in islam clings to a belief that evolution is a Western conspiracy to undermine islam.

You're mistakenly confusing Islam with Catholicism.
Islam doesn't have a pope.
Sure, there are (multiple) people, claiming to have that role, but it's not a commonly accepted position among the worldwide population.

I did say "whoever is the big honcho" They are aiming to establish a world wide caliphate, so I imagine their big honcho would be be called a caliph?

And you're assuming wrong, just likes someone assuming the pope speaks for all Christians.
Islam =/= catholicism.

I'm sure they are all very excited.
The problem with fantasies is you can't really insist that everyone else believes in yours, the other problem with fantasies is that most believers of fantasies eventually get around to doing exactly that.

"Every people deserves to conserve its identity without being ideologically colonised," the Pope said.

It's good to see that after the battles with the Curia, he still has a sense of humour.

If no sense of irony...
Once again, the only sensible approach is tentatively to reject the dragon hypothesis, to be open to future physical data, and to wonder what the cause might be that so many apparently sane and sober people share the same strange delusion
