WFT! I though this thread had become a pub...and now a large drunken crowd come in from the 'genesis' thread?

Can anyone give a vrief overview?

I very much doubt it.
It sounds like a Ferengian term.

Questioner121, either the earth is rotating, or the entire cosmos is in orbit around us. There is also the Coriolis force, which I'm sure someone else must have mentioned in 120 pages of posts!
Your reasoining concerning the atmosphere overlooks that the atmosphere rotates with the earth (apart from the local effects of weather).
In short, it is fair enough to challenge "facts", but you will not succeed in overthrowing science on this particular one.

... PS, I don't think the universe is in orbit around us.

I didn't treat her with the gravity she thought she deserved and was duly sent into orbit.

a YouTube video called "The earth is not rotating - spinning - or moving !!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xokMcO3T0SY
Unfortunately, with every attempt to educate the poster ... the comment gets blocked.

To the OP of this thread:
evidence to show the earth is rotating (proof is for mathematicians)
- Foucault pendulum
- the existence of a geostationary orbit
- the location of Lagrange points between sun/earth just like earth/moon
- HUGE difference in mass between sun and earth
- angular deviation in long range projectiles
- higher centrifugal force at the equator (... which is also the reason space launches are conducted at or at least near the equator to save fuel, and they always launch east to get an extra boost to this force)
- coriolis effect
- similar effects of the atmosphere on other planets/moons
- gyroscopes data on earth and in orbital satelites

should the earth stand still:
- enormous speed requirements for the rest of the visible universe should the earth stand still (many, many times the speed of light)
- violation of the sun's conservation of momentum to account for inclination (seasons)
- geostationary satellites fall to earth

... insofar this is still relevant, not repeated for the umpteenth time or even useful to add in a year old thread (but I can't resist  )

Yep, everything has been pretty much covered after ~2400 posts. My own favourite argument is this: a major earthquake can change the length of a day by a few microseconds. Does a local earthquake instantaneously change the rotation of the entire universe? :)

I liked the video. Thanks.

I'm still not convinced. Something doesn't seem quite right (...might just be my head).

ooh, good one, haven't thought of that before. Going to try and post that to the youtuber mentioned above, if you don't mind.
If he has to block my comments (I'm not on ignore, I checked) means he has to read them, eventually something has to stick ... right??
