Maps

#1  Postby MacIver » May 21, 2011 12:03 am

Hey folks, was going to put this in History but I reckon it would fit in here better.

I'm looking for a website that shows detailed maps of Earth in different periods, with perhaps ten thousand years intervals. I'm looking for detailed information on the location of deserts, forests ect, info on the sea levels and the location of the ice sheets.

Cheers!

Long ago, that would be, e. g.

www.scotese.com

For more recent periods, you might find useful links here.

Apart from Scotese there´s also the paleomaps of Ron Blakey (http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/rcb7/globaltext2.html). Which look really good.

Planning on some time travel are we ? Important to remember that your GPS won't work if you go back before 1994.
Study philosophy to learn to ask the right questions, study religion to learn to listen to the wrong answers.
It seems you teach a child your religion so they can recognize your enemies.

An author who wrote much about climate in historical time is Brian Fagan.

Bleh, someone beat me to the Palaeomap Project ... nice to know everyone's on the ball though!

The actual map page is this one. There are links down the sides to different eras.
