US group 'concerned' about climate science threats

A major US-based science association on Wednesday issued an open letter expressing its concern about harassment of climate scientists, saying such tactics could harm scientific progress.
The letter, published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, followed an incident in Australia earlier this month when university researchers were rushed to a secure location after receiving death threats.
"Scientists should not be subjected to fraud investigations or harassment simply for providing scientific results that are controversial," said the letter from the board of the AAAS, which publishes the journal Science.
"AAAS vigorously opposes attacks on researchers that question their personal and professional integrity or threaten their safety based on displeasure with their scientific conclusions."
A press release to journalists accompanying the board's letter mentioned that in Australia, "top climate scientists have been targeted by an unrelenting e-mail campaign that has resulted in police investigation of death threats."

Continues here.

It seems there is only one side of the "debate" that is making threats to shoot the messengers, another good reason to be cautious about their message.

Death threats againsy climate scientists in the US have been common enough until today, whenever a name climate scientist travels to some city to keep a speaking engagement or something, he gets a police escort the moment he steps off the plane and is provided with a police security detail until he gets back on the plane to leave town. James Hansen of NASA tells a funny story about the first time this happened to him. He came off a plane in Houston and walked into a phalanx of cops ... and thought he was about to be placed under arrest. But to his surprise, they were only there to ensure that no harm came to him.

Until some kind of resolution is reached that resolves the emissions problem this kind of thing will only get worse. Exxon and the fossil fuel industry will continue whipping the public up with its denier agenda and they'll whip on them until somebody cracks and goes ballistic and kills someone. Climate scientists and climate activist's are best advised o take every precaution they can.
Capitalism is obsolete, yet we keep dancing with its corpse.

When will large scale corporate capitalism and government metamorphose to embrace modern thinking and allow us to live sustainably?

With the level of ignorance on climate change, evolution, stem cell research, and science in general, plus the miserable lack of funding, its amazing to see that we even have any qualified scientific establishment left in here putting up with death threats. I admire their perseverance.
