I'm basically quite greedy and selfish. I'd spend most of it on women, drink and drugs. I'd probably just waste the rest.

Apologies to George Best for stealing his joke.

But seriously, monogamy. How much does one of those cost :eh:

If you do it right, the woman in question will pay for her maintenance. But then again, there has to be something on offer that is not related to your financial status.

More seriously I could spend it 10 times over funding some projects that I would like to see get some cash..
But I guess I would help out some people I know, set up some scholarships (I got my education that way) and things like that.
I don't really need that much myself, but certainly a few properties scattered around the world would be pleasant and completing my PhD would be covered. Wouldn't retire but would probably work differently, probably only part time.

In the great scheme of things thats fuck all.
Just put it in a bank.

NO! Property, mate. Cash depreciates, property rises (and falls, of course). Buy gold or rare Ferrairis or houses.

In my town there's an ugly late 1960's brick building housing a mechanic and petrol station on the site of an old pub that burnt down around 1955. I'd buy it, and build an arts centre (live music venue, bar, gallery, cinema and arts information/booking centre) there. Our town has heaps of live music talent, but is short a really good venue, with music now hosted at either tiny cafes, pubs with a stage jammed in one corner, or a big hall where you can't get food or drink, and a purpose built live music venue would be a huge asset for the town's regular gigs and numerous festivals.

That sounds like a good idea, OliverK. But can't someone get funding for this? Here in the UK there's The Prince's Trust, it helps in alsorts of ways, you must have something similar. But yeah, a patron is what you really need I guess.
I'd fund it! If I could get a visa...

I may yet try to get funding and do this, but for now the mechanic must stay, as he's one of the town's most beloved citizens (with reason: he's also the local NRMA man (think AA, breakdown rescue service) still willing to come and help anyone (member or not) at any hour, as he has done for over 60 years - he's 83 and still going strong. If I won the lottery, I'd still ask if I could buy his place, but on condition that he could stay as long as he wanted. His son doesn't seem particularly interested in the business, and isn't held in the same universal esteem, so he'd probably be happy to take the money and establish elsewhere.

Besides, a big lottery win would allow things to be done with more whimsy (and more staff), and less pragmatism, and I'd like that

Indeed, and in this some will go to great lengths while other will always fall short.
