More fun times with the creature ...

So my wife and I used some of the money we saved during my deployment to purchase new reclining chairs for ourselves - and got a pretty good deal, enough that we splurged on a child-sized recliner for the creature. She liked it well enough:

But, typically for that age, she also liked playing in the box it came in. It has become her new favorite plaything. Two nights ago, my wife went in to find the kid and the dog both sleeping on the box on the floor. When they got up, we stressed that they were not to get up after bedtime to play, and that Lily was expected to sleep in her bed, not on the floor.

Last night we got the following photos:
Image
Note the feet sticking out of the box.

Image

Oh, well - at least she was still on the bed.
Hard to see, but the dog is in next to Lily.

Image
All the activity woke the dog, who wisely got out of the box and returned to her bed. The 6y/o, however, was out for the count, and even the flash didn't disturb her.

It's been her nickname for a while now - sometimes "Creature Feature" for added comic benefit.

She likes it when I refer to her as a "One-eyed, one-horned, flying purple Creature Feature".

My granddaughter just got me good.

She brought out a stuffed bear with a pack on it's back, and was telling me all the things she'd put in the "book bag". I told her it couldn't be a book bag if it didn't have books in it.

She said no, it's for school, so it's a book bag.
I replied no, if it doesn't have books in it, it should be called a back pack.

She got a big grin and said "If it's a back pack, it has to have backs in it!"

This evening, we all got to go for a bicycle ride through the countryside. My oldest son finished a week-long stage and can now ride his bicycle quite nicely. My littlest son rides in the seat on the back of my bike. My wife was the sweeper.

One day this week, while coming home on the bus, my oldest son mentioned how nice the teachers are at the stage. He them emphasized to his mother I was nice, too: "...not that Dad isn't nice. It's not like he kills people.".

Well, I guess that'll have to do. I don't kill people. I'm a nice guy.

My son just got another research paper approved for publication. He's off to America in July to present it at a conference. He's not expecting an easy ride as it contradicts a lot of established thought in his field.

Welcome back, CJ!

My daughter filled out the census form last year. She was 14 and one of the questions was, "What race are you?"

She wrote in "human". :)
I never did mind the little things.

Last night, my oldest son (7) read The Little Red Caboose to his little brother (3) at bedtime. Very nice.

This is 5 minutes after taking the stabilisers off Tia's bike, she's 4, she required two wee pushes and she was off. Is she a genius or what?

What's a wee push? Is that what you do when you have trouble starting to urinate?

Claire-Bear the Wonder Girl's quest to rule the world continues on as scheduled. Her school cheerleading team just won the regional championships in their division and are off to the state titles next month.

Are you preparing them for unemployment and homelessness when they grow up? Is their future so bleak? :waah:

;) Cool photos. I have old snaps of my oldest girls sleeping with books over their heads like tents, they'd been messing around and fell asleep like that, so cute!

The night before she'd slept in the box on her floor. After being told to stay in bed in the future, this was her solution - dragging the box onto her bed before sleeping in it.

She'll either be prepared to be homeless - or one hell of a lawyer.

Frankly, I'm not sure which is worse.
