Great site to teach kids computer coding.

#1  Postby Scarlett » Apr 28, 2014 10:09 am

We recently found this site which has loads of interactive games to teach kids from 5 to 13 how to do computer coding. Tia, 7, loves it, she's got a great logical thinking ability that we like to encourage and she's speeding through the levels. I have to admit yo enjoying them myself

In between the exercises there are video tutorials from computer whizzkids, including Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.

Thought I'd share for you to share with your kiddlies.

There is a link on there to Lighbot.com which we started on.

This looks great - really! I have some friends I'll pass it on to.

Would the thread benefit from being in the parenting forum too?

Not much kop these days. Not many good compilers around and not OOP.

Anyway nobody programmes these days. Just buy in 3rd party software and off you go.

Er, yeah, that's basically the point. It's astounding how many IT 'professionals' can't actually code these days. Sites like this teach basic coding skills to the young, which in turn, enables them to grasp lower level computing concepts.

Lower levels are OOP. Coding like Basic is old hat. Very old hat.

Java is old hat as well.

The whole programming world is so fluid. That is really what drove me mad in the last years of my working life. Just keeping abreast was bad enough. Keeping ahead was an impossibility.
