Inhereting Shame

#1  Postby Eryemil » Jul 16, 2010 7:38 am

I often think about the choices I would make if I were a parent which is very strange because I do not like children.

I started thinking about what I would do if I had a female child. Would I teach her that she has to hide her chest from a young age or let her run around shirtless like her brother until she decides otherwise?

I've always thought that one of the best things that anyone could do for their kid's body image is have them grow up with some immersion in the naturist community but this is about more than that.

Those of you who are parents, how have you handled this issue?

We've always let both of ours (one of each) run around stark naked as much as they like, and so have most of our friends. Our boy has just turned 10 and most of our friends have girls, several of a similar age, so it's not so easy now. The kids themselves have mostly developed their own sense of modesty in the last few years though, without us having to impose it on them.

I remember when we went to England in the early 70's, and spent a day on the beach. My little sister, who was two years old, ran around naked, but Mom felt the disapproval from the Brits. That was back in the innocent days, before pedos started to take pics and upload them to child porn sites. Children wear swimwear here in Sweden, but tops are optional for the smallest girls.

My shame has been handed down, from mother to son, since St. Patrick set foot on these green shores and cobbled us all with Catholicism.
My son will be the first in a long line of Byrne's not to inherit shame.
Instead, he shall inherit the wind.

It was allegory for "my kids shall smell my farts."
In that context it's less lovely.

It was supposed to be funny, not "lovely".

Why must you ruin everything Num1cubfn? Why?!

I, on the other hand, thought he meant the feel of the air around their naked bits.

I never would have dreamed of swanning around with no clothes on when I was a kid. My mum was OK but my dad was a massive prude. However my kid is nearly 10 and would never wear clothes if she didn't have to. She's still unconcerned about wandering around the house naked. I think that's because we're (me and the other half) both unashamed now as well.
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

It was sincere. I had meant it to be funny. A play on a famous movie title about evolution on trial in America.

Thank dog, Ms. Cheezy didn't notice the gender-specific pronouns of animavore.

I try to go as gender-neutral with my speech as possible, but I've learned I can't expect everyone to alter their speech.
Even if they should.

Irish mothers tend to dish out the punishments to the sons. That's why we're all mammy's boys. The girls get their shame from other girls all practising to be cunts towards their men and boys when they get older.
Didn't you know that tradition?

Oh. Yeah. About that. Have you ever read Ann and Barry?

Ann helps mammy in the kitchen.

:this: is surprisingly accurate.

Thats why Irish girls would kill you in your sleep if they had the chance (or didn't need you alive in order to crush your spirit).

Classics!

What about Dick and Jane though? I never understood the relationships between Dick and Jane, and, Anne and Barry... were they sworn enemies?
