Good Omens

#1  Postby DaveD » Dec 25, 2014 10:28 am

OK, it's neither film nor TV (yet) but it fits better here than in the music forum.
Good Omens, by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, has been dramatised for radio, and is being broadcast over Christmas. It's also available on iPlayer here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04vdqpp
Hopefully furriners will be able to hear it too.

Part 4 is on tonight! Never read any of pratchett or gaimans stuff; but really enjoying this.

I have read the book, many times, and I'm enjoying it too. It's a very good adaptation.
Pratchett and Gaiman like it too. Gaiman is particularly pleased that his friend Terry will get to hear it. There have been several attempts to adapt it for film or TV, and they'd both given up hope.

Just listened to the final episode.

I really really enjoyed the whole show!

Must get hold of the book now.

You'll enjoy the book. The adaptation was faithful, but inevitably there were bits left out.

Able to play it streaming here in the colonies, have to figure out if I can download it.

One of my favorite books, I try to limit myself to re-reading it once per year max.

get_iplayer

documentation

Or to save you a little time, once installed the commands needed to download the six episodes are:

Code: Select all
get_iplayer --pid b04knthd --type radio
get_iplayer --pid b04vdqpp --type radio
get_iplayer --pid b04vf43c --type radio
get_iplayer --pid b04vjb60 --type radio
get_iplayer --pid b04vjll9 --type radio
get_iplayer --pid b04vjrjm --type radio

There's probably a way to download all six with one command but I haven't learned that yet ;)

Very well cast I thought, the parts could have been written for peter serawotsit and mark heap.

Thanks Catbasket!

I thought it was well done - glad they included the footnotes, as they're an integral part of some of the comedy.

I just tried get_iplayer, and it worked for episodes 5 and 6, but not for 1 through 4, despite the BBC page stating that episodes 1 and 2 are still available for 20 days, and episodes 3 and 4 for another three weeks. Same with using youtube-dl. Any ideas?

Please ignore my previous post about get_iplayer not fetching episodes 1-4. I was using an RPM package of get_iplayer from rpmfusion, and it was an older version. I upgraded to the latest, and it worked fine.
