NetFlix codes

#1  Postby Macdoc » May 17, 2017 1:23 am

www.netflix.com/browse/genre/XXXX  into your browser's toolbar to bring up one of the thousands of genres in Netflix's library.
"XXXX" is a series of digits - 1089 is "Mind-bending Movies", for example; while 354 is "Movies Starring Matthew McConaughey" - currently a genre of one film.
Not all numbers will result in a subgenre, and given Netflix's ever-changing algorithms, they might move around every now and then, while there may be regional differences meaning that some codes don't work.
Codes for the main genres are available here. At the foot of the list is a link to a list of even more.

Jesus fuck, 27,000 genres! Specific ones no less, but then, they'd kinda have to be, wouldn't they? How specific, are there black lesbian hit squads on mars flicks? Or movies involving people eating chili dogs wearing only white clothes? Or even movies involving people eating turkey-chili dogs wearing only white 100% cotton clothes?

Really? Tsk tsk, everyone knows that genre is crap, you should try 'Crossdressing ǃKung Bushmen serial killers of Venus', really only for the true connoisseur.

This seems a useful link. Vulture updates it regularly,

This post is updated regularly to reflect the latest movies to leave and enter Netflix. *New additions are indicated by an asterisk.

With thousands of movies to choose from, and a navigation system and algorithm that don’t always make the right choice easy to find, it can be difficult to know what to watch on Netflix. That’s why we’re here, breaking down the 100 best movies on the service at this minute, with regular updates for titles that have been removed and when new ones are added. We’ve done the hard work, so now the only thing you have to do is sit back and, uh, watch all 100 movies. (And if you’re more of a TV person, check out the 50 best TV shows on Netflix.)

I find Netflix's genres to be pretty poorly defined, often finding films/series that only slightly or not at all fit the supposed category.

Using the apps on my TV, PS4 and phone are pretty awful. Their categories are limited and poorly defined, the apps push "Because you watched" along with other categories more than actual genres and when you get into it the genres seem to only show the same old shit across multiple genres. Does using the website to browse give greater variety and ease of use?

Yeah, that listing the same stuff under different headings is a real annoyance of mine.

Mostly it's to pretend to have more content than they actually have and maybe tweak your interest. They will use alternative splash screens as well.

Netflix is by no means the worst. Amazon Prime is a horror to navigate. At least some are also providing links to the reviews.

I really hate the shortness of the descriptions of films or series on Netflix. It's impossible to know what they are about without looking somewhere else.

It's always something like

"Linda moves to New York to start a new job."

Okay, so is this a comedy, a crime drama, a horror flick, a romance? Hard to tell. Need to go read more on Wikipedia.

And another thing! It randomly decides to add subtitles to a film, then refuses to turn them off when you tell it to.

I don't like the genre specific music that's now tagged to every movie as I flick through the selection. I called the USA and asked them to stop it, but they said no. Seriously
