Neill Blomkamp (director of District 9 and Elysium) is set to direct a new Alien movie. It will follow on from Aliens (1986), essentially ignoring the storylines of Alien 3 (1992) and Alien Resurrection (1997)...

Neill Blomkamp says new movie will be 'genetic sibling of Aliens'
2015-02-27

Neill Blomkamp's new Alien movie will feel like the "genetic sibling of Aliens".
The 35-year-old director, who's been brought on board to helm the eagerly-awaited new movie, has revealed that his film will disregard Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection and will instead carry on from the James Cameron-directed Aliens in 1986.
Blomkamp told Sky News: "I want this film to feel like it's literally the genetic sibling of Aliens. So it's Alien, Aliens, and then this movie."
What's more, Sigourney Weaver, who starred in the 1979 original Alien movie, said she's keen to see her on-screen character Ellen Ripley give a "proper finish" to her part in the franchise.

A horror film then.
The welfare of the people in particular has always been the alibi of tyrants, and it provides the further advantage of giving the servants of tyranny a good conscience.

Alien was horror.

I'd say Aliens was closer to an action flick.
We are alive, so the universe must be said to be alive. We are its consciousness as well as our own. We rise out of the cosmos and see its mesh of patterns, and it strikes us as beautiful. And that feeling is the most important thing in all the universe.

Ohh, I see, my mistake, from the action adventure one. A fun movie, but the first was far superior.

Personally, I'd agree. But the second movie is pretty good too. And I know a lot of people prefer it. Let's face it, the Space Marines with their motion detectors and digital readouts on their guns were a pretty cool addition. :-)

Alien and Aliens completely different types of films both best of their type at the time (and arguably of all time)

The problem with the ones that came later wasn't that they were bad but that the first two was just so good. Killing everyone at the beginning in Alien 3 was a big mistake

Killing Newt was unbelievably stupid. After everything Ripley goes through to keep the girl alive in Aliens they just write her out of the 3rd movie because she's a nuisance.

So this is basically an admission that the 3rd and 4th ones were shit? David Fincher even basically disowned the 3rd one. And it probably could've been great if they'd just given him control, because, well, look at everything he's done since.

Bloomkamp as director sounds promising. He has a knack for SF.
