Simon Pegg will co-write the next Star Trek movie, after the original screenwriter left the project.
Roberto Orci, who was also slated to direct Star Trek 3, pulled out last month reportedly after disagreements over the script.
Orci, who co-wrote the last two films in the series, has been replaced in the director's chair by Justin Lin, best known for the Fast and Furious movies.
Pegg has taken over scripting with the help of TV writer Doug Jung.

Expect ensigns to be replaced by cornets. (Let's see if anyone catches that obscure reference.)

Cornetto trilogy I take it.
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

You know your Pegg - good! Now, I wonder if he'll write in agitated tribbles, a.k.a. hot fuzz.

As opposed to writing in iambic pentameter?

I hope the next movie is all about a self-aware V*GER, and has a bald, long-legged robot-woman in it. :awesome:

OK I'm having trouble working out the meaning of that sentence, Varangian. You wonder if he'll write agitated tribbles in, also known as hot fuzz?

...replaced in the director's chair by Justin Lin, best known for the Fast and Furious movies.

The series is now officially fucked.

I think he meant a là Hot Fuzz. Though I was sure the film was prosaic.

Exactly my assessment, although an amazing script could save it.

I think Pegg has an excellent record as a screenwriter going back to series like Spaced, Asylum and Big Train.

The choice of director doesn't inspire much confidence though.

And only the later Fast and Furious films too, not even the half decent first one.

The new Star Treks are good movies.

But they just aren't Trek. :-(
We are alive, so the universe must be said to be alive. We are its consciousness as well as our own. We rise out of the cosmos and see its mesh of patterns, and it strikes us as beautiful. And that feeling is the most important thing in all the universe.

I loved those new movies. Much better than the stupid TV show upon which it was based.
