I've also been impressed with stop motion ...love Grommet ...but this goes to another level.

Yup, 3D printing is a couple *coughs* of steps before ST replicators ;)

Interesting vids, Macdoc! :thumbup:

They mention the use of 'replacement animation' in Tim Burton's 1993 movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. To give a more complete history, though, they need to go back another sixty years or so... to the 1930s.
The technique was pioneered by George Pal (video link), creator of the Puppetoons.
