I've got to the final season of Bojack. Genuinely one of the best shows in years. One of the most complex and insightful shows I've ever seen.

Oh, I hadn't realized that that was Scarlet Witch.

Interesting material & concept. But alas, it's Disney. :dunno:

Ratched on Netflix. You can tell immediately it’s by American Horror Story chap. Sarah Paulson is great as usual, a shapeshifter. Highly stylised and full of fetishistic gore, obviously.
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

I watched the first 2 and a half episides and quit in disgust. It is a shitty series. Especially for those who enjoyed Louise Fletcher's portrayal in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Make no mistake: the Mildred Ratched in the series is much more like Annie Wilkes than like the Mildred Ratched in the movie.

I can see it being Marmite. It was right on the edge of my sense of acceptability. I’m not much of a gore person, but I like Sarah Paulson. The melodrama vibe is not really me either.

I like Sarah Paulson as well. But why Nurse Ratched of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest? The character portrayals are completely at odds with one another and there is a definite impedence mismatch between the series and the movie.

this series probably serves better as a prequel to Misery. Or, better yet, call this American Horror Story season 9.5.

i've read a few independent reviews calling it a spin-off from asylum, which i wouldn't altogether argue with

early on, i decided to detach myself from my knowledge of the film as it was clear that was just a hook to spin it off....'loosely inspired by' would be the best description of it....and enjoyed it more once i did that

Came here to say this. I feel personally offended by how shit this series is. The pandering, the complete lack of nuance, the cheap reliance on shock, the one note performances. Based on the description, it was a stupid idea but the execution was even worse.

My girlfriend is watching Netflix's Dynasty, based on the 80s show of the same name. It's like a mix between Succession, Game of Thrones, and a bucket of shit.

Catching up with some reading right now myself.

Hell on Wheels, Netflix. If you haven't seen it and have any interest in the American frontier, give it a look. Cullen Bohannon is an interesting character, and his Mississippi accent is perfect, probably because his great-great-great grandaddy was a Confederate colonel and he grew up in Tennessee. It's about building the transcontinental railroad after the Civil War.

I remember being v impressed with Hell on Wheels’s acting & writing & sets... maybe on par with Deadwood? Problem is, I dipped in @ a random episode when it was on AMC, so I should probably try from the beginning. Also, I don’t have a fresh impression of Deadwood either.
