Never could tackle The WIre - too American. Had the same issue with Breaking Bad.
The Americans however was brilliant.

The Americans was awesome (my only objection is the last season - imo it was boring and the finale was imho simply ridiculous; other than that I really enjoyed it)

New Ipcress File is almost. Not quite as good as the original movie.

Just watched 'Night Sky' on Amazon Prime.
Well, that was a treat. J.K. Simmons and Sissy Spacek play an aging couple in typical small town mid-west America.
They live their lives, go about their business and proceed through the mild perturbations and minor interpersonal conflicts that are the warp and weft of life.
Oh, they also have a secret chamber under their garden shed that leads to a portal to another solar system...

The thing I liked about this was the sheer normality of the lives lived by the characters. So used am I to dramas where every emotional response is dialed up to 11, every conflict of interest leads to a blazing row, every past sadness is a burning trauma that infuses a character's whole being, it was really refreshing to see normal people being normal.
The parts were played to perfection by Simmons and Spacek.

The Sci-fi aspect of the story ended up being a kind of side issue...and you know what? I kind of liked it that way.
"Go and look at the vista of an alien world today?"
"Nah, got some errands to run in town. You want anything from the store?"

Hoping there is a series 2.

not bad but rhe lead is nuts

Additionally, during the filming of Blindspot, Alexander experienced many injuries, including: ruptured C6 and C7 discs from being water boarded; herniated T3, T4, T8 and T9 discs; broken nose; dislocated right shoulder; broken right index finger; broken left foot; broken left two toes three times; broken right foot; broken right two toes; dislocated jaw; and other injuries that she was not allowed to disclose.[26]
In March 2018, Alexander was hospitalized and underwent surgery after her appendix ruptured. She later recovered.[27]

Also in 2012, Alexander suffered severe injuries when she slipped off a metal staircase during a rainy morning on the Thor: The Dark World set. The fall caused her to slip a disc in her thoracic spine and chip 11 of her vertebrae, as well as dislocate her left shoulder and tear a rhomboid on her right side. The injuries took her out of filming for a month.[24][25]

watching the original Korean version now ...

can't locate a reliable Season 5 on the remake :(

This is okay tho - I don't mind subtitles and different cultures are interesting to see.
The two lead surgeons are similarlt cast as well. Enjoying it.

Just binged Sandman. Always look forward to Neil Gaiman related projects and I enjoyed it. Starts off with someone wanting to summon Death, so he can get his dead son back. He gets her brother 'Dream' instead, I can't say much more without spoilers. It's a bit of fun and I enjoyed it.

Unusually, I also binge-watched Sandman (albeit continually fell asleep and had to find out where I was in the series) - visually, it's a treat, and I love the mythos... but the acting was weak and so many story hooks were resolved in a simplistic or pointless way. The contest between Sandman and Hell is a case in point.

Greg Garcia (My Name is Earl/Raising Hope), has just put out a new show called 'Sprung'. About a bunch of non-violent offenders released from prison because of the Coronavirus (show is based when the pandemic had just started). I like Greg Garcia's stuff, it's funny without trying to be dark or obscene, and you generally end up even liking the 'bad people' to some extent. Everyone in the show is very everyday human, flawed, like all of us. Seen the first four episodes so far and enjoying it.

Latest iteration of Let the Right One In. Man looking for a cure to help his daughter who was turned into a vampire. Provides her with sustenance from himself and 'undesirables'. Moved back to their home city, since a spate of unexplained and unsolved killings would be a good cover for her 'meal plan'.

Andor.

Now, I was yet a lad in 1977 when I queued for 3 hours to see Star Wars. My young self was blown away. I'd never seen anything as exciting in all my life. I watched the second and third installments but gradually lost my enthusiasm. I guess I was just getting a bit older and the cartoonish elements of the Star Wars story just didn't do it for me any more. I was less than enthralled by the prequel trilogy and was kind of dismissive of friends of my age who still really got into the Star Wars vibe.

Can't even remember watching some of the later movies...although I suppose I must have. All except 'Rogue One: A Star Wars story'. It seemed to have a seriousness and maturity that I found rather lacking in the main sequence stories.

Well, this 12 part series deals with the backstory of the hero of Rogue One, the titular Cassian Andor. I've been gripped. No lightsabre duels or using the force or wacky alien sidekicks here. This is a complex and well thought out story that really fleshes out the notion of what it means to be in rebellion against a tyrannical power structure like the empire. The story is a deeply political, perfectly scripted, excellently acted narrative. Some reviewers disliked it because they thought the pace was too slow...yeah, I suppose in this age of limited attention span internet clickbait that is a danger. I found it perfectly paced and am thinking of going back to the beginning and doing a re-watch.

Season two has been greenlit.

We ran out of the 1970’s show Columbo, starring Peter Falk. We watched the first seven seasons. Loads of fun.

Just starting the show Monk, starring Tony Shalhoub. It’s similar in format to Columbo, where we see the crime, then see how the genius detective figures it out. That’s interesting, but they usually spice it up with a smug murderer, so we get more satisfaction when he gets busted. Even though it’s a formula, they’re fun to watch.
