"The Atheist Professor" story now a movie.

At least they don't seem to be saying the student is Einstein...

So that's what happened to Dean Cain.

Yes. The eternal question remains: Do actors' careers turn to shit because they become born-again Christians, or vice versa?

Is he an atheist? Or does he believe god is dead? Can't have it both ways

That other guy, the professor, he was briefly someone too, I think.

There's a correlation between born again Christianity, and other religious types, and lameness in general. Whether it's a priest trying to be 'cool', an Islamic mobile phone, or side hugs. So actor's careers going to shit and them finding religion might go hand in hand like a self-referential loop.

ETA: That's presuming he [i]is[/ï] a BAC and not just doing a role he's paid for.

I looked him up. His name is Kevin Sorbo, and he used to play Hercules on TV.

The movie is based off a song by the xian band the Newsboys

I personally think the above video indicates some very encouraging things.... from an atheist perspective. The billboard campaigns and the influence of social media are not going unnoticed to people whose reason for existence is to prosthelytize to children and teenagers.

We pushy, overbearing atheists should be ashamed of ourselves for trying to impose our beliefs on innocent Christians like the lad in that movie. How dare we!

Yeah, college is so full of pushy atheists. Christians are certainly a repressed minority in campuses everywhere.

Oh, and Kevin Sorbo is a suck ass actor.

That's an unappealing movie. Dickhead unprofessional professor makes crap arguments and threatens student, who in return makes crap arguments and shouts a bit. Think I'll wait for the next spiderman movie instead.

Looks like Kevin Sorbo has been busy, apparently he's hosting this highly informative looking upcoming documentary:-

@2:28 the student claims "science supports his existence, you know the truth, why do you hate god?"

This is probably the gist of of the movie, and probably the most common American Christian apologist argument. It really doesn't take much thought to realise just how biased it is.

The professor is a strawman, someone who is supposedly an intelligent, well educated atheist, representative of the whole atheist argument, yet stumped by the most common misconceptions and transparent canards.

Christians in general know that science does not support their view, but would very much like to believe that it does.

Imagine the difficulties the director might have had, if the actors are smart.

"Ok now this is where the professor's expression needs to show that he is conflicted, having second thoughts, the argument is swaying him, he cannot fight the truth any longer.."

"But there hasn't been an intelligent argument yet, no educated man would be swayed by what has been said"

"doesn't matter, the audience will want to see him being swayed at this point, play to the audiences desires, screw reality."

But from the clip above the professor isn't an atheist. In order for god to be "dead" it'd have to have existed. It's just buying into the typical xian argument that atheists don't hold a belief in gods but they actively hate god and rather wish it never existed.

"God is dead" does not mean that there is a god but it has died, it means the idea of a god is dead.
Why do you think that?

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. Yet his shadow still looms. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?

My former sig.

Lucky kid, if what occurs in the trailer occurred in something approaching reality: open&shut discrimination on grounds of religion, a dream cause célèbre for America's megachurchites to get behind (gasp, real, actual persecution!), millions in damages/book deals/speaking appearances to follow. Capped by a few decades in global ministry, until the inevitable regrettable incident of hoovering coke off a nightwalker brought things to a close. A faithful life, well lived.

Pity for him that he's a character in the tripped-out dimension that is the evangelical imagination.

Christians would like to believe they are the unjustly persecuted minority

Christians would like to believe they have scientific fact on their side

Christians would like to believe intelligent atheists are stumped by their arguments

Christians would like to believe there are no true atheists, just people who rebel against god.

The movie appears to play exclusively to the irrational nonsense that believers of irrational nonsense would like to carry on believing, in complete contradiction of reality.

I wouldn't knock it. That's been a winning formula for the past two thousand years at least. ;)
