They'll probably do better this way then if they'd released it traditionally....

I reckoned the hoo-hah was all a publicity stunt that got out of hand.

Their last film about the apocalypse was fucking shite too. And Bad Neighbo(u)rs.

I agree. Great PR for a probably not so great film.

I doubt very much it was a publicity stunt given all those embarrassing emails that were released. It wont do this (quite average) film any harm though.

No I mean; the publicity stunt was sony ostentatiously pulling from the film from all distribution 'in response' to an email threat that the FBI had said was not credible. I don't believe this is the only film to ever piss anybody off or receive an ambiguous threat with no credibility, so why the extreme response? Because they knew the film was a turkey and needed to generate hype for its eventual opening because word-of-mouth would kill it quickly as soon as people got to see it, I say :levi:

Sony didn't pull it until the theatre chains decided not to show it. IIRC.

Sounds dull. Americans have never been any good at comedy.

Yeah it looks like a horrible movie. The streisand effect is the only reason it's going to be remembered at all. That said it's an amazing case. North Korea claims the movie is an attack against them by the US govt (possibly not realizing how Hollywood works. Possibly they think that the us kidnaps and forces directors to work like some countries). Hack attack against the studio for the reasons NK claimed. NK claimed they had nothing to do with the hack and says that it's probably the US govt probably did and wants to use it to further their original attack on NK.

It was the cinema chains refusing to show it that sparked the cancellation of the original opening though. Unless there was a conspiracy.

Sony issued a statement saying that they had no plans to ever release the movie in any format in any territory, IIRC. That was about a week and a half ago :coffee:

Entirely agree. Rather at the same level of German comedy.

The Germans think themselves to be very funny.

The release was going to happen on the 25th of December until the cinema chains said they would not show it. Sony then cancelled the release. They then got flak from all corners but I haven't seen a single comment on the former's cowardice. I'm puzzled as to why...maybe it's a BP/Haliburton type thing.
