The movie is largely sympathetic and a portrayal of the type of people involved in this, with the occasional quick word from someone else. I feel like it missed a lot of opportunities to discuss points they raise, and get other perspectives on those points. There are obvious questions begging to be asked which are simply not raised. Fact checks are not done.

I love how the flat earthers supported a couple of fairly good ways of investigating curvature and rotation of the earth, yet managed to reject their own results which supported a curved, rotating earth.

They reject modern science as dogmatic, and not following the evidence, yet when they fund experiments of their own to overcome this "dogma", they set out with a specific conclusion they want to obtain, and when the experiment doesn't show this, the conclusion is that the experiment needs to be redesigned.

I found the movie interesting but not very entertaining, for me it mainly supports the idea that people who feel rejected see conspiracy, seek each other out, and are ripe fodder for cultish groups and channels. It is probably very addictive getting sucked down the rabbit hole with people who seem to have more in common with you than anyone else you have met.

A reasoned response?

This has to be a new trend and tactic because people who oppose to evolution claim that its an ancient myth, popoular culture supporting it and modern science each day having new evidences that denies evolution.

A reasoned response?

At 8:53 in that video we learn that Mark Sargent lives in South Whidbey Island.

In the Movie, he claims that Seattle should not be visible because it is so far away that it would be under hundreds of feet of the earth's curvature.

The centre of Seattle seems to be 20 miles away from the shoreline of Whidbey.

Quick google reveals that :-Using the theorem of Pythagoras a2 = 39632 + 12 = 15705370 and thus a = 3963.000126 miles. Thus your position is 3963.000126 - 3963 = 0.000126 miles above the surface of the earth. 0.000126 miles = 12*5280*0.000126 = 7.98 inches. Hence the earth's surface curves approximately 8 inches in one mile

So his hundreds of feet, is actually 160 inches, which is 13 feet.

EDIT TO CORRECT, actually 20km, so 12 miles, 96 inches, 8 feet

Takes about 2 minutes on google to debunk his opening claim, though in the movie I don't think it says where he is.

I had discussion with flat earth theorists on a Turkish forum, as far as I see the only proof they cant reject is the earth's shadow on the moon during moon eclipse.

Travelling around the world, planes routes, ships appeareance at the horizon they have weird so called explanation for all of these.

I went to a cinema last night. A proper one and watched "The Wife" with Glenn Close.

I just watched the funniest movie I've seen in a long time:

What We Do in the Shadows

Apparently, FX is releasing a TV series based on the movie, but it doesn't look nearly as funny.

I'll give the show a try because Taika's making it. I expect it won't hold up to the film though.

I'm a sucker for a musical and do like Emma Watson.

What stirkes me tho is Disney being out front with diversity of cast despite the French setting.
The usual lush setting.

Girl can sing too .. interesting techique with the beast ...CG ?? makeup?

Audra Macdonald tho ...what an incredible voice.

Is Hollywood short of money, the math genious kid in the UFO (2018) movie was using a laptop thicker than the one I use in 2001.

Gaming laptops with powerful GPUs tend to very chunky as they are workstation level computers.

Bohemian Rhapsody, it was great.

I never read any book on Freddie's biography just watched docs but surprised to learn that he introduced Jim Hutton as his partner to his family.

edit I didnt know that either

Little-known fact: George was asked by the remaining members of Queen to join the band. He politely declined, stating he respected Freddie way too much to consider taking his place.

Watched Captain Marvel today. I liked it, although I thought it was a bit too conventional. Brie Larson is badass, there's a few funny scenes, but I don't know, I was expecting something more.
