Will you watch?

#1  Postby trubble76 » Jul 10, 2012 9:48 am

Whenever a movie studio announces plans for another remake, the reaction among fans and pundits is always the same: Hollywood doesn't have any new ideas.

But we like to look on the bright side of things, which is why we're so happy when we hear of a cool remake or reboot. Hey, who needs new ideas when there are already so many great old ideas waiting to be rediscovered?

With that in mind, we've compiled a list of 50 -- that's right, 50! -- upcoming Hollywood remakes that tickle our fancy. Because if these films were good the first time, you never know, you might just enjoy them even more the second time around.

From here.

Some of those could be fun with modern FX (Westworld), some like why bother? (Drop Dead Fred?!)

And War Games just should not be remade as it's already a perfect kids' movie and can only have been made in the 80's.

I might watch some of them, the ones I don't really have any fond memories of, but a lot of the originals here are part of my childhood / youth, and there's an emotional value to them that can't be topped, even if they may not be technically perfect, so I'll probably avoid those remakes.

Regarding the Robocop remake...
I think that the limits of stop-motion animation actually worked in favour of the original... the technique was just perfect for bringing ED209 to life. And because it was time-consuming to do, the stop-motion wasn't overused. The remake will, of course, be done with CG... and it's very possible that they'll just go overboard with the FX.
Shit, I shudder at the thought of Robocop looking like another #*x*+#-ing Transformers movie.

Dirty fucking Dancing??? What the blue fuck elevates that pile of ordure above the heads and shoulders of other films to a position where it requires even more time, money and attention being lavished upon it??
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.

Remaking Time Bandits? FFS, don't mess with perfection

Is whoever takes the lead role in The Crow going to be shot on set? I hope Channing Tatum takes that role.

The Crow...you know, I think they should just make one enormous film, running time 25 years, so they can re-hash all the films that came out before 2005. Then at least all the agony would be confined to one place.

Carrie has survived an awful sequel and a pale TV remake, so I figure it'll survive this next attempt. But they must not touch The Birds, even with Naomi Watts in place. This goes back to rule 7 in the horror film remake booklet:

Rule 7.
Do not remake The Birds, even if Naomi Watts is involved.

That's very true, I think.

Are they already planning for sequels for these remakes? Lethal weapon v 2.1, v2.2...

I think there's still some life money left in that franchise.
