I do exciting things with my friends, like going to the playground with our children, or going to the cinema for a girls' early evening out.

Is there still a large expat community there? There was one "night" club then which closed at 1 am on Sunday morning. Lucky the petrol stations were open.

48% of the population are not Luxembourg citizens. That's in the country. In the city it's 70%. (I only know this because it was on the radio the other day.)

Don't know about night clubs, not my thing. One of my friends does frequent them, though, so they clearly exist.

The rugby club did not sell beer! It is a very long time ago but Luxembourg being Luxembourg probably does not change much. It is very conservative or do you find it different?

Most of the country is quite conservative: the capital is a bit of an exception, as is usually the case.

But we've just re-elected our coalition consisting of the Greens, the social democrats and the liberals, although the conservatives (Juncker's party) were expected to win. The Greens gained three seats (there are only 60 in the entire chamber). And the new government is legalising cannabis and making public transport gratis.

Heard about free public transport. Is it used much?

It's not free yet: supposed to come in the summer. We'll see. But it's already very cheap: €1.60 for two hours, and €3.20 for the whole day, anywhere in the (admittedly small) country. Sometimes at off-peak times I'm the only one on the bus; at other times they're packed.

We even have a funicular railway, linking the tram and the bus with the railway line down in the valley.

Yes, but I don't usually get one, working at home. €50 for a month, no restrictions. Children are free already.

Speaking of e-bikes, I don't think I can recall seeing any here.

Here in Manhattan ebikes are currently the bike of choice for food delivery people. They have a very bad reputation as work for tips and so are probably the the most threatening road users, it seems to be a rule that they always ride against traffic and do not care about pedestrians. Now I see that the rentabike stations are beginning to include ebikes so maybe this will change, but ebikes and scooters have a very poor user safety reputation and so far this well deserved. They should be safer than pedal powered bikes as have lower centre of gravity and the rider should not be distracted by effort, but this seems not to be the case as they allow higher speeds for the less skilled cyclists without the regulation of a motor vehicle.

Are these the standard e-bikes or the much more powerful pedelecs which have a top speed of 45kph and an incredible acceleration. They are proving a problem here as well. Normal e-bikes create little problem and they are very popular in the countryside with kids who can be required to cycle 20kms. to school especially the high grade schools.

I hope they still have ebikes for rent this summer. Some of those bicycle delivery people are definitely a hazard to pedestrians and other cyclists. If you hear a frantic bicycle bell behind you, hit the deck! :teef:

The Dutch will just stop. Frantic bells are met with a barricade of bikes who owners ask where is the fire? Average speed in town on cycle lanes is 12 kph. People like to keep it that way. So you are delivering? Cycling is laid back.
