electronic cigarettes

#1  Postby campermon » Aug 31, 2011 4:21 pm

Hi all,

Anybody know about e-cigarettes?

I'm a prolific smoker and I don't really want to give up but it's obviously screwing with my health. Also, my dentist is moaning at me too and has referred me for private treatment to clean up my cigarette stained teeth! :teef:

Also, has anyone found that using e-cigs has helped them to stop wanting to smoke and eventually give up the nicotine addiction?

Any advice welcome.

turn to weed, then you will have another problem but this one will diminish.

They work a charm. I smoked for 42 years, tried everything to quit. Cold turkey, patches, gum, hypnosis and Chantix. Nothing worked. I bought an e-cig a year and a half ago and managed to quit. I still use the e-cig and have no intention of quitting them. I can't smoke a real cigarette anymore, matter of fact the smell makes me nauseous. The first week was a bit rough, I think that it isn't just the nicotine that you're addicted to. But after a week or so I was fine. The only thing in them is propylene glycol and nicotine. No idea what propylene glycol does to you, but I lost my cough and can ride my bike the 11 miles to the beach pub without stopping and gasping for air.

I tried about every kind. I didn't like the ones that you drip the nicotine liquid into, it's a pain in the ass and you don't want the raw liquid getting into your mouth. Then there are the two and three piece ones. The three piece has a battery, an atomizer (basically a heater) and a disposable filter cartridge. They were OK, but I found the atomizers burned out after a month or so. The two piece ones are a battery and a disposable atomizer/nicotine cartridge. It's got a tiny tungsten wire in it, surrounded by what looks like cotton batting soaked in the liquid. Each time you change the cartridge you get a new atomizer thingy. That's what I use.

I don't know which ones you get in the UK, I use two brands that are interchangeable. White Cloud is the best, but it's quite expensive. Smoketip is almost as good, and a lot cheaper. Different brands taste different, if you can find a shop that carries multiple bands they'll usually let you try different ones.

Once you invest in the batteries and chargers it's much cheaper than cigs. Each cartridge lasts about a day or day and a half, and costs between 2 and 4 USD depending on where you buy them. Compared to 8 bucks a pack of 20 that's pretty cheap.

Here's two websites, I don't know if they ship overseas.

Campermon, I can't recommend E-Lites enough. I tried the crappy £5 ones from amazon that you can't get a draw from, then I Payed load of cash for iCigs that activate in your pocket and have zero battery life. Finally, a friend recommended E-lites and they are perfect! Get the duo box so that you can charge one while smoking the other.

I'm about 3 months of not having smoked anything but these! . Thats after 14 years of smoking!

I use Mirage e cigs.
Whatever brand you use, I'd recommend getting one with a manual battery. The automatic ones, at the end of their useful life, can switch themselves on and off, and pressing a button when drawing isn't that difficult to get used to.
I'd also recommend getting a tank system, which works out cheaper than all in one cartomisers.

Well, at the moment I'm still smoking! I think next payday I'm going to invest in one of the fancy usb charging ones and see what happens!

You see, the problem is that I don't really want to give up smoking but I know it is screwing up my health and will kill me (as it did my mother) - not a good prospect.

One thing I'm absolutely sure of is that you can't make someone give it up, you've got to decide to do it for yourself.

All I can reassure you about is that e-cigarettes are working for me and for a number of my friends. Although I'm quite a way from saying that I'm in the clear they may well have quite literally saved my life.

Aye! If there was a safe way of burning out a part of the brain that causes nicotine addiction I'd go for it!

Best of luck!

The E-lites are still working for me. I've gotten to the point where I think for a moment about bumming a cigarrette off of a friend (if I'm drunk) and I realise that it will probably make me feel sick. I honestly don't think that I'll ever smoke again

Keep at it, Campermon. They really do work.

I've had a few experimental chuffs on it this evening and it tastes a little sweeter than what I smoke (roll ups with filters). I reckon it might take a little getting used to. I'm going to see how far I get tomorrow morning feeling the need for a 'real' ciggie!

That's a rough shag! I haven't smoked Samson for ages!

On the e-cig front, I had a ''vape' in the living room (smoking verboten!) and asked the kids if they could smell anything. It passed the test!

You can smoke them indoors too, which is pretty sweet (and great to piss off the locals  )

Just like in the old days!

If you're going to use them in the pub, it's as well to have a chat with the landlord to make sure he knows you're not smoking. You wouldn't want to get barred for no reason. I've had very few people complain, but one or two, once they'd got up on their high horse they couldn't get down, especially the one who indulged in some theatrical coughing!
