Thanks.

We have a pair of short cedar picnic tables that need protecting. Hah! There's a great use for the three little cans of yellow paint we bought to try.

I like it, but I like the old color too. We have scarlet tanager birbs up here.

I guess we needed some more improvement done!

The landowner to my north thought he'd hire a guy with a chainsaw to fell some big firs on his land, to turn them into lumber. Not a bonded, insured, tree cutting business, but a guy. With a chainsaw.

That is the back of my house, crashed into by a fucking big tree. No less than a perfect 180 degrees from where it should have been felled.

There are no injuries. Everyone and the dogs were not in that end of the house or out in the garden. No warnings from the asshole with the chainsaw, either. My neighbors reported they heard him driving wedges into it for thirty minutes before it fell on my house instead. That fucker never said a god damned word to my family to warn them.

Before giving the saw operator, and then the landowner an epic fucking shellacking (and, I mean epic), I summoned a Sheriff's deputy. The sawyer was walking towards me, along the trunk of the tree he'd just minutes before fell onto my house. He tried to pass this off as accidental, which I immediately and with much colorful metaphor rejected. There was no accident here, it was fucking incompetence. No safety line whatsoever on the tree. No warnings. The poor dumb shirtless bastard had the temerity to start swearing at me from his perch atop the tree on my house!

Un-fucking-believable.

Anyway, in the deputy's calming presence, this guy first offered to have his guy start clearing it off of my land. He'd offered that earlier, and I asked him why I should trust his man to work safely while on my property? He honestly couldn't understand the question. In what universe do I want the asshole who did this crawling around on my property trying to un-do it?

He then told us he'd reply to my phone with contact info for his insurer. Thirty minutes after close of business, I sent a single SMS: "You said you would provide contact information for your insurer. Where is it?". To which he replied: "Ask nicely".

I maintain the high ground, and said nothing further. One of the partners at a local law firm rides my bicycle wheels. I'll let them ask.

Oh, there was a bit of poetic justice. The landowner's front right tire on his pickup truck was flat in my driveway. Good.

What a dipshit. You have to know what you're doing if you want to drop a big tree in range of someone else's house and property. He didn't even get step one right: wear clothes. :picard: Sorry to hear about that. Good luck with the suit if it comes to that. Ask nicely? What a dumbell.

The situation is stable. The roof will need repair. The last two or three meters of that tree hit my roof at considerable speed, shearing off at the edge of the roof, gouging some siding boards, then crushing the back door step to the ground. The fence is crushed. The septic system drain field lines will need to be inspected and repaired if damaged. This thing fell right across them, driving broken limbs deep into the ground.

I already had the company which just repaired and painted my buildings out to survey the damage and get me their estimate for repairs. The septic drain service doesn't open until monday. Guess we'll keep an eye on our shitters.

Shitters appear unaffected. Still, the drain service fellow comes in a week.

The axeman's employer's insurer appears to have stepped up to the task. But, not on weekends. My own insurance was no better over the weekend, though this shouldn't involve my insurance at all. Just trying to bring that online in case the lumberman's insurer balks.

Dumb luck, there seem to be no catastrophic failures, except the crushed rear step.

This absolutely sucks Metatron.

What a fuck up it all is.
I mean, the property damage and all is bad enough, but someone could have been fucking killed.
And the fucking gall of the guy to object to the tone of your demand for insurance details...

Anyways, glad there were no human or canine injuries or fatalities.

To be sure, my tone with those two bastards was brutal. I have a superb command voice, and I spared nothing.

It was the realization that it was nothing other than our dumb luck that saved my family from these assholes that drove it. I desperately wanted to punish the sawyer. Had I been armed, it would've taken serious discipline to not blast him off of that tree trunk when he started swearing at me for the shellacking I gave him. As it was, I was constantly evaluating the situation if he decided to hop down off that tree and have a go.

I haven't felt the lizard brain hit like that in a very long time. It's pretty traumatizing, all by itself.

There seems to be very little this family business does not do. Clearing and repairs not two weeks after painting our house and outbuildings!

The quality of their work and attention to detail are as good as I would do myself, if there were ten more of me to do all this stuff!
