Lock down ....what I miss most....the bitch list

#1  Postby Macdoc » Apr 23, 2020 3:32 am

Starting to get seriously restless and some things are still out of bounds

What triggered this was the simple view of friends out for a latte on a TV show. :waah:
... nah can't do that ...not even have a friend in for a coffee.

Can't go to Swiss Chalet and get a plate of french fries and dipping sauce and read for a half hour.

I can ride mcycle but can't meet up with friends and it's too fucking cold at the moment

Can't go to movies with dottor ...a weekly treat.

Can't fly home to Australia as I'm in limbo with an almost done permanent visa. Even if I had the visa not sure I could get in.

Running out for a top up grocery order in store feels threatening...and not being able to get a grocery pick up order that's not two weeks away...and then I never get close to what I ordered

...even going to the bank means lining up in the cold and so does grocery shopping at the bigger supermarkets.

At least my doc is with it and has excellent online communications and he even ordered a prescription for a staff member who has no family doctor so he didn't not have to go to a walk in clinic.

I know what you mean, Mac.

My favorite hooker is OOA with the 'rona, and because of all the masks, I'm unable to figure out who are the narcs and who are the dealers, when I cruise the park looking for a hit of smack.

Think I'm gonna kill myself, get a little headline news, wanna hear what the papers say on the state of teenage blues.

Lost my statue of Shiva, Victorian thousand quid affair, in a move last year. Ordered a new one from India but don't know if it'll arrive with the virus messing with the less important trade. Miss that statue. It speaks of the future and the past to me...

On a Sunday morning: Going for a nice long cycle ride with friends, stopping for coffee and cake and then popping in for a couple of beers in the late afternoon before home for tea. A great way to prepare for the working week. The weather here in the UK has been wonderful too.

Give it another 4 months and I might miss going to Sushi Express or cycling to Mandai. For the moment, though (and we're only a month in), I don't miss anything. I'm enjoying my work at home, the quiet streets are a delight, and I love that people are staying away from me. I mean, that's all I've ever wanted. Why do people feel that they have to walk so close to me normally? Why? Stay away. Stay over there, behind the car, behind the tape marked on the ground, and keep out of my face when I'm buying milk and eggs. Thank you!

I'm reacting oddly to crowded scenes in movies ...and there have been a LOT of movies.
It feels like more than a month - part of that is we were in Chile prior to that for nearly 3 weeks and came back to a very changed world. The first two weeks of isolation were okay ...lots to prep and try and sort a way forward on a number of fronts.

Seeing it was still twi-light at 8 pm and sunny before that gave the minor cabin fever a jolt today....-1 C just now gave a stay home reinforcement.
It must be hell for those with kids in small units or high rises with treks to get to anything - and delivery services for groceries are not coping.

So far GTA residents have been reasonably well behaved but I suspect the first 18-20 degree sunny day will see a lot of push back on the isolation and even more pressure on the gov to have the garden centers allowed to be open.
Even me with the blackest of thumbs is conspiring with "he who lives below" to plant wildflowers and tomatoes. At least the wildflower seed is supposedly enroute but uncertain about tomato seedlings.

Cases are trending down and deaths mostly confined to aged care in the GTA so there is some reason to hope May brings fewer restrictions and perhaps some limited allowable public socialization.....but the damn virus is still a threat :waah:

The movies and a restaurant I guess. The wife is getting down on the dumps, she won't leave the house.

Having been sufficient company upon myself for as long as I can remember I don't really miss anything now, and I won't miss anything any time soon except for

the barber.

Must be because I had the flu for Christmas
And I'm not feelin' up to par
It increases my paranoia
Like lookin' at my mirror and seein' a police car
But I'm not givin' in an inch to fear
Cause I promised myself this year
I feel like I owe it to someone

I miss the access to hardware and appliances most. My microwave has popped - dead short across the magnetron, unfixable, and I can't buy a replacement. The water pipe that feeds my house burst, and I couldn't buy parts to replace it, though I did manage to MacGuyver a bypass that looks really silly but seals ok.

We can still shop for hardware and appliances, and for me personally, life's little changed.

I miss playing hockey - I'm replacing the exercise with lots of walking, but miss the social side - and I miss having a teenager-free house on schooldays, although I've still got plenty of work on the farm, and I usually have that, and the house there, to myself.

My wife works 4 days a week, and Tuesday was our day to ourselves. Now we have to share with the kids, and given that (a) she's a doctor, and (b) normal work hours don't mean much to people any more, even on Tuesdays she ends up in multiple meetings because managing COVID-19 risk is changing all her work practices and shit needs sorting sooner rather than later.

i miss the weekly bridge game at the bridge club, and the bridge tournaments. so far two tournaments i had planned to attend have been cancelled.

I am aware of online bridge play, but those are very prone to cheating, and so impersonal, and perfunctory.

Playing with my nephews. I want to hug and kiss them. All I can do is talk to them from underneath their balcony though. They quickly lose interest.

And petting dogs. When I'm out and see someone with a cute dog, under normal circumstances I would say hello to and pet the nice dog. Someone else may have petted that dog though and that person may not have washed their hands so I don't pet dogs anymore. I've seen some really cute puppies lately and the fact I can't love on them is driving me nuts.

Me, I'm with Trevor Noah. I'm loving this self-isolation, which I would do normally, if it weren't for dumbasses yammering at me to go outside because "it's such a nice day". So yeah, I'm bitching about dumbasses. During lockdown, I miss fucking with them.

I want the cafés and restaurants to open again, variety in my food intake, as well as my regular beer, coffee, and socialisation runs are major elements in my finding life bearable.

Women say the uncertainty surrounding maternity services during the coronavirus outbreak is "making a stressful situation harder".

Saddest of all is that maternity leave has just evolved into self-isolation.

Nadia Hussein from Leeds is more than a week overdue with her second child.

Due to coronavirus measures, the 33-year-old's birthing plan is no longer possible and she is anxious her husband can only stay with her for two hours following the birth.
