OBC based on your grammar, I'd say all that pot smoking during your formative years did have an affect.

There has been, however grammar was never my thing. The worse side effect for me personal would be forgetfulness with little things. And sure there was a reason why I was called buzzy in high school. ;)

edit my lack of grammar is epic.

Well, I'm guessing it's all been said about how absurd its illegality is. I won't harp on about that.

I have a little piece of flattened dirt weed in a film canister in my bag. I am saving it for after I pass the drug test I have to take soon.

I used to smoke ALL the time. I would smoke before I left the house at 6am just to make the subway ride to work more tolerable. I'd smoke all day at work, it was just ridiculous. I did it to make the work day more fun, but it usually just made me more antagonistic towards work itself and sluggish, forgetful, slow. Prone to dumb mistakes.

I was seriously psychologically addicted to it. But I came to hate it too. I hated the munchies. That's still the worst part of it for me. I literally cannot stop myself from eating until I'm guaranteed to be sick to my stomach the next morning.

I wish I could just smoke, enjoy the first hour or two, then snap my fingers and come off it without the lethargy that sets in. I love thinking and talking while high (and watching movies) but if I am not engaged continuously the descent begins and I stop caring about anything and then I go eat a bunch of food and pass out. That's not cool.

But still, there is nothing like a nice spliff (I am one of the few Americans I know who prefers pot + tobacco to either one alone) smoked by the window, listening to some good cerebral music.

Excellent story, by the way.

Mine is not nearly as funny, but when my Greek parents had come to the US for my graduation, I was smoking pot in the next room. They had no clue, since they couldn't for the life of them tell what that smell was. In their mind, skydiving remains as the stupidest thing I've ever done (though starting smoking cigarettes at 21 definitely trumps it).

You know not all highs are the same, I suggest reading up on indicas vs sativas. Good indicas are usually associated with body high's to heavy couch lock. Not something you want to be out and about with, best for when you are at home end of the day. While sativa's can be a heady high to something almost hyper up beat. Which is great for when you are doing something.

I went through a phase where I got high to work, I would get up 4-5am and could drive an hour or two to get to work. And yeah it was nice to get a little high with my morning cup of coffee. But I could not do that on good indica!

Unless you really have really good connections you probably won't be able to find out what is what. But it's worth it!

I am a BIG fan of cannabis. I don't smoke it until i get home from work because my work doesn't lend itself to being high. I used to have a bit of a problem with alcohol and other drugs (xtc and speed mainly) but smoking weed helped me give up all the other drugs, and drastically reduce my alcohol consumption. In fact, weed made the process so easy and quick that even a man with zero will power such as me could do it without even breaking a sweat.

I would prefer to smoke homegrown "bush weed" (ie not skunk) as i prefer the lighter, happier high (i believe this is due to skunk being super high in THC while bush weed is higher in canniboids) but the current prohibition means i'm forced to buy super strength skunk instead (non-skunk is not readily available in my circles anymore)

I have smoked fairly heavily, almost every day for about 20 years and in the interests of fairness i'd like to give my personal take on the downsides.

1) Paranoia (aka The Fear) - a very real effect. Can be scary, however a simple reality check has always solved that one for me " omg there's someone following me, oh wait, i'm just stoned"

2)Munchies - Can be positive in a medicinal sense. Ok, i've gained a little weight of late, but i'm still about the right weight for my height. Satisfying munchies can be a lot of fun, especially when enjoying a really nice dinner when high. Not the biggest problem in the world of drugs.

3)Illegality - i don't want to break the law on a regular basis, but i find that preferrable to not indulging my favourite pasttime.

4)Reduction of Motivation - This is the one that affected me in the most negative fashion. But i'm also aware that my best friends that roughly match my consumption do not have the same problem, so i feel that weed has merely magnified a problem i already have (IOW i'm lazy :P )

I will sum up the positives concisely:

1) it adds to all the things i enjoy in life, makes them all a little more enjoyable.

2)it diminishes many of the bad things in life

My opinion on the criminality of it is simple: i think criminalising it is criminal.

Hey, I know exactly what he's talking about. I miss a nice dirty columbian or the chocolatey sweetness of thai. It's like having to take shots when all you really want is a beer.

You, sir, are indeed a pothead!

I'm only turning 20 in a couple months however I've been smoking marijuana on a constant basis for the past 3 or so years. When I graduated in '08, I ended up working for a year at a warehouse (full-time) and got high in the morning (8am), around lunch (12) after work (3:30pm) and once or twice more during the rest of the day. I went into college last year and will be in my 2nd year this September.

Though I've cut down slightly on marijuana, I can indeed notice the awkwardness of my days. I carry some very strong existentialist views, and literally have to motivate myself to get through the day. It feels like I've done absolutely nothing in the past year, even though I've been going to college and getting good grades. It's weird. It's as if I've been sleepwalking for the past couple of years.

Perhaps it has to do with the "paranoia" effect of marijuana.

You obviously misread/misunderstood my post. I'll try to rephrase for you.
Starting with the assumption that weed smoking is one of my favourite pasttimes, then given that the only kind of weed easily available to me is skunk, then i'm forced to make skunk my choice of weed.
No-one forces me to get high.
I hope that clears things up for you.

Nah,I understood you well enough, I just thought it amusing. You can make nice bubble hash out of skunk which I find doesn't quite fuck you up as much.

Fuck man I remember five spots.
Don't really like grass, I much prefer hash, I've been smoking on and off since I was fourteen, sixteen years now, with some breaks of one to six months.
The thing that pisses me off most is the "psychological addiction" which means "I like this".
I've had quite a few friends who got paranoid and had to stop, but, tbh, they were always paranoid, and still are, maybe they were a bit worse when they were stoned but that's about it.
Although I agree with all the arguments for legalisation, I think the most important one is rarely addressed, namely, who made it your fucking business??
I remember when I used to work in a shop, we used to get stoned at lunch, and it turns out when you're dealing with irritating pricks in a shop, being stoned is performance enhancing. :smoke:

For me, marijuana is one of those things that I over did. I really enjoyed it a lot growing up and used to smoke throughout the day, before work, during shifts, and then after work. It didn't help that I lived with my work colleagues and one of them was a dealer. So, it was pretty much always in my face. But, during that time, I was in a pretty melancholy place in my life. So I'd smoke a joint, play video games with my friends, listen to music, and then go into my room and write. But because of the place I was in life, my writings reflected that, and it started to seem that I stuck in a cyclical way of living. I really wanted to get myself out of that, and I began thinking that perhaps pot had a lot to do with it. Plus, I noticed if I didn't smoke before bed, I'd wake up feeling a bit fresher. So eventually, I very slowly tried to wean myself off of it and found that I felt a bit more social and not as sensitive to little things that would have sent me straight into introversion.

Ever since then, I still find it makes me a little bit too sensitive. So, I pretty much refrain from it and rarely feel as tired as I once did.

So that's my silly little story, but at the same time - I am not against it at all! I know it has very different effects for different people, but it just doesn't work for me.

I think that it should be legalized. The amount of money it would bring in would really come in handy.

On a side note, has any one heard of kratom?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kratom

I know it's illegal in some countries, but not yet in Canada. It can be purchased as a powder to put in teas and is a nice stimulant depending on how much you take, or if you just take a bit, it has more of a relaxing effect.
