Peanut Gallery - Formal Debate

#1  Postby Durro » Apr 13, 2012 4:42 am

This is the comments thread for the formal debate between Lion IRC and Crocodile Gandhi. The debate thread can be found at

http://www.rationalskepticism.org/forma ... l#p1279253

At the conclusion of the debate, a poll will be conducted to gauge the participants' effectiveness and persuasiveness in their debating.
I'll start believing in Astrology the day that all Sagittarians get hit by a bus, as predicted.

No, that don't work, I tried that...

EDIT: Ignore that. I changed a setting for smilies earlier today for some reason. Back to normal now.

Bookmarked. Can't wait for this. At the very least, it will be the most entertaining thing of the year. ;)

Another gauge you can use if to do a poll before the debate, to see if minds have been changed?

Painful, yes. Brief? We'll see. Remember that creotard who debated theropod on "information" in DNA? The one who eventually blew a gasket and started to spew cap-locked rants all over the thread, before he disappeared and lost by default? If something like that happens, then it'll be brief. Otherwise, LionIRC will have as much time and space as he wants to spew his bigoted hatred, regardless of whether he "wins" the debate.

But I'm keeping an open mind....

Alternatively, we can forget about the concept of winning or losing and simply decide whether any of us on an individual basis, have learned anything new about this subject including any possible consequences such as changing one's mind about some aspect of the debate.

If anyone subsequently wishes to say anything about what that night be to the rest of us, then all well and good.

Well, I don't think that gay marriage shouldn't not be made illegal. I think...

Was the strange subject phrasing chosen because arguing that gay marriage shouldn't be made legal seemed easier than making a positive argument as to why it should be outlawed in the first place? :ask:

Does anyone check for plagiarised cut n paste arguments?
