RatSkep Archive for Safety

#1  Postby NineBerry » Jun 09, 2020 6:22 pm

You might remember that when the RichardDawkins forum was dying, I created an offline version so that its content wouldn't be lost.

Now, there is a risk that Ratskep will at some point in time not be there any more. So I decided to also create an offline archive of this forum so that in case Ratskep might be gone at some point of time in the future, we still have all that content. This is currently going on and will probably take a couple of weeks altogether. The current snapshot of the forum will then be available for download.

Every few weeks I will download the new posts and publish an updated version.

Thank you for this it is always a risk that servers fail etc and there is so much on these pages here that it would be a shame to lose them.

Need to laser print the data into deep time material and set copies at locations where it can be found at the last stage of human civilisation that might be long in the future and be troubled how it all got started, for knowing what to do towards the end...or even at crisis points along the way like Hari Seldon appearing.

Six was the number at which I joined Dawkins ol' forum, as alienpresence, can recall not a thing I posted there but flitted about between subjects too much so they shot me off into space before their planet blew up....overall was there at the start, here at the end. If they have the tech to bring folks back in the far future using the astonishing pick me as one to bring back, please, stories I could tell and some might even be interesting.

Greetings NineBerry!
Weird, after an absence of 2 1/2 years, just a couple of days ago I was irresistibly curious to check out reactions to the protests by folks here and find this. I very much remember your efforts due to participating in some very minor way by providing some storage space. I thought it was a little strange that earlier today my access logs showed some downloads of the full data sets after all these years that weren't something like tweetmemebot or other search bots [VirginMedia residential outa Birmingham]. I guess it wasn't so strange after all.

It's a good thing you're doing, thanks, I hate it when data gets lost

Download at about 50%.

Funfact: The first half of threats on the forum were created within less than the first two years of the ten year lifetime of this forum.

Still, it's always good to read that a threat level has decreased.

We have an archive of RDF, if this is what you are looking for

Richard Dawkins Forum Archive:

Here's the download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rjz5dcm76djazij/Full-RDF.rar

The download is 653 MB.
The unpacked version needs approx. 6 GB.

When unpacked, start by opening index.html.

aufbahrung wasn't user number six on there. That was user "ScooterDMan" who only made three posts ever. There was a thread titled "28 days later.....". But quite short with only two posts:

28 days later.....

Postby campermon » Fri Jun 19, 2009 4:53 pm

My school's just been shut down for a whole week due to swine flu...

Seems a bit excessive.

Is the 'man' not telling us something?

:ask:

Possibly, they're saying:
It's cheaper to close down a school due to a flu scare than it is to properly fund it. ;)

Thanks for the archive NB. With the apparent inactivity of LIFE it may be necessary to transfer to a new forum/server if everything goes 'tits-up'. :dunno:

Just add a space between 'alien' and 'presence'.

And contrary to Scrumple's memory, he never got banned from the forum. His avatar would have been sporting the "Banned user" graphic, if he had.

Nelson Mandela? Did he merely imagine that he spent more than a quarter of a century in a prison? And would it be equivalent to imagining that you were banned from posting in an internet forum?

No, please don't reply. I feel sorry enough for your wife and children already.

I think there is a good chance that I might have made the last post on the old RD forum. I’m pretty sure it was in “Earth Sciences” section. Ah, the good old days.
