I love sugarcane juice, but I've never tried corn syrup.

WTF? I'm not sure what sugars there are in maize, but without research my instinct says it's starch. Which would be why you need some serious chemistry to get sweet corn syrup out of it.
whereas sugarcane is actually sucrose rich.

The problem is, in part, due to lack of information provided by the food industry with regard to sugar quantities in food. True, in the US, EU & UK we have the mandatory Nutrition Label which lists sugar per 100 grams - but ONLY Total Sugars. I think there is a move afoot (in the EU?) to include Added or 'Free' Sugars, but I'm not sure if that will ever materialize.

If the general public knew how much sugar has been added to their food, I think they would make the right choice and go for the less added sugar items.

Except chocolate, of course. :naughty:

Nothing technical at all, not all sugars are created equal.

Why do you care? Do you ingest high fructose corn syrup?

The solution to any concerns you have is your mouth. Stop eating it.

At least we can agree on something.

'Sugar the bitter truth' is all about high fructose corn syrup. It's not the same as sugar cane. It's just cheaper.
Same with Aspartame. It's cheaper.
The problem is - idk if I am ingesting HFCS. It could be in anything. Ingredient lists could be seen as 'fake news'.
'They' might not give a damn about the negative side effects. Because after all... Money?

Besides the fact the the statement ‘fake news’ is essentially ignorant jingoism, ingredient lists aren’t the whole story nor are they intended to be. They can be improved however. See AlanB’s post above.

Aspartame is a synthetic sweetener. Sucrose is a natural sugar. Fructose is a natural sugar. There is absolutely no similarity between aspartame and either sucrose or fructose.

If you eat shitloads of sugar and/or artificial sweeteners it will have a deleterious effect on your health. Therefore, don't eat shitloads of sugar and avoid artificial sweeteners. If you do then you deserve whatever happens to you.

So a restaurant "promotes" harmful food. So what? Eating the odd heart attack burger isn't going to hurt you, and if you're stupid enough to eat that shit every day then you deserve whatever happens to you.

Here in TrumpLand we list all sugars on our labels, and break that out between added sugars and naturally occurring sugars. If you're stupid and cannot read a label then you deserve whatever happens to you. If you eat only canned and processed foods you deserve whatever happens to you. If you refuse to educate yourself because you think all labeling is "fake news" then you deserve whatever happens to you. If you only eat high fat high sugar low fibre foods you deserve whatever happens to you.

In short, you pays your money and you takes your choice, it's on you, cupcake.

Your vid about the heart attack grill is derailing, in the food they serve, sugar and carbs are not the real killer, the killer is all the artery clogging fat.

Does the Nutrition Label in Trumpland list 'Added Sugars' (or 'Free Sugars')? I didn't think they did. If so, then good for them.

Edit.
I've just checked: FDA. Came into force 1st Jan. 2020 for manufacturers grossing over $10mill. and 1st Jan 2021 for under $10mill.
We're still stuck with Total Sugars only.

They now list "added sugars", which is anything added during the manufacturing process. I don't know what this label is for, but I wouldn't drink it. Probably a soft drink.

Snap!

But the layout seems odd to me. UK & EU labelling lists amounts per 100g so one can easily determine the percentage. But I suppose the average Merikan only understands 'Cups' while 'grams' is forrin stuff.

I'm not as fanatic about "you are what you eat" as Mrs. Lak, but I do try to stick to a healthy diet. As long as "healthy" includes deep fried shit and beer, of course.

I did stock up on a bunch of canned shite at the beginning of The 'Rona. I opened a can of bacon Spam the other day. I fried it crispy and had a Spam sandwich on white bread. I'm ashamed to admit it was delicious.

I know exactly where you are coming from...

Crispy bacon sarny and brown sauce... Mmmm!

But I do use healthy brown (Granary) bread, so that's alright.

I’m guilty of past junk food consumption, but luckily I also liked an awful lot of ‘healthy’ foods. These days I hardly eat a damn thing, and my main goal is to try and take as many calories on board as I can. My main meal of the day was a whole tub of Onken strawberry yoghurt. 350 calories and lots of sugar.
