Technologies the world could do without

#1  Postby Macdoc » Oct 09, 2019 9:35 pm

This can be wide ranging...anything from nuclear power to an apple corer..to self checkout.....to video games or ....????

Twitter is what prompted it..
What an intensely stupid way to conducted government and foreign affairs...I'd love to see the twitterverse disappear entirely.

Facebook a close second for massive exploitation of individuals desiring to stay in touch.

I'm sure I'll think of others....sarin gas perhaps... :coffee:

self checkout is definitely a bad thing, more work to do shopping, and they don't reduce the prices either.

I like self check-out. Think of all the low-brows it's de-jobbing? And I've found a ruse with it and that saves me money too.

That sounds like theft, the way you put it.

Internet forums. They're good for nothing but providing platforms for self-appointed experts trying to spread their nonsensical. homespun theories and endless, pointless bickering. That's why I never joined one, and never will.

Self checkout is great when stores use it right. Like with most maligned technology it's people that are the problem.

The store I usually shop at does it right. The self checkouts are small and designed such that only people with a couple of items can use them. The employees they free up instead work as baggers for the cashiers who take care of those with more items. Essentially, instead of having 4 lanes with 4 cashiers they have 2 with a cashier + bagger while have 3-5 self checkouts for people who only need to pay for an item or two. Vastly superior to what you'll find at Walmart where they might have 1 cashier and then maybe 1 person responsible for 10+ self checkouts.

Temporary event fencing. It's an eyesore, it's ugly, and treats people like caged animals. I hates it.
