Who are the American Freemasons?

#61  Postby galexander » Sep 28, 2020 8:02 pm

If you query the average search engine as to what exactly IS American Freemasonry, you will get the following result at the top of the list:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-American_Freemasonry

This particular webpage tells us the following:

Anglo-American Freemasonry is a loose network of overlapping chains of mutually recognized Grand Lodges. For the most part these trace their descent from one of "original" British Grand Lodges, with mutual recognition based on adherence to certain core values, rules and membership requirements

And......

The Anglo-American style is especially dominant in the United States, and the countries that once formed the British Empire.

Indeed we are told that MOST of the Masonic Lodges in the US are affiliated to the United Grand Lodge of England, however there are also lodges affiliated to the Grand Orient de France which the former consider to be "irregular" and hence do not recognise. Apparently, in addition to this, there are also some genuinely independent lodges that former a smaller minority.

So are we to believe that American Freemasonry is actually British?

Of course Britain has a very different history from the US. For a start it still has what is known as a Constitutional Monarchy. It also lacks the quite revolutionary constitution that is found in the US which is based upon the fundamental rights of man and the American system of government is far more open and modern.

Does anyone else have any views or opinions to add to this?

Yeah, either you or someone like you already made a thread on this.

I'm guessing they're Freemasons who are American.

That is my theory. That is to say, the theory that is mine, is mine.

It's true, I had created the thread "The Real History of the Freemasons" some months ago but it wasn't specifically about modern American Freemasonry.

Not all.

I'd leave that one where it is, though. While it is also about Freemasons, it is thematically distinct from the ones that were merged.

If the intent were to combine all threads concerning that mob, you'd have to also stuff the ones started by DoctorE and by notquitesane into this omnibus.

Can I ask why you have combined two separate threads?

I would prefer them separate.

The first thread, "The Real History of the Freemasons?" is international and is on the Masons of the 18th century, and the second thread, "Who are the American Freemasons?" is on the present day Masons of the US only.

The two threads are completely different.

Please separate them again. Combining them is a terrible idea.

Nah, keep them together - Having Freemason threads littered all over the place makes the forum look like a sad, monomaniacal conspiracy theory site.

I also think having one thread dedicated to a single topic that has generated almost no interest is enough.

But answer me this.

What are the British ruling classes doing organizing what is clearly a secret society in the United States of America?

People in the know in the UK sometimes boast that they can "say" something in the US, I've heard them say it myself.

But how does this work exactly?
