Need a enemy or clown to act as a unifying scapegoat for all the ills that go with people cooperating. Sometimes a ingroup member can be the class clown. And when they rise to leadership things really get moving. Consider all the efforts to get off planet since Trump was elected?

Ain't no such thing. Those societies that come closest are those with high standards of education, universal public healthcare and very little religion.

The second in command makes or breaks the greatest leader. The power behind the throne matters most. Without that there is chaos.

Sweden, Japan, Norway, Denmark. Economically a unified culture is somewhat advantaged over a multi-cultural society but can have some issues with maintaining a labour force without immigration.
Japan is facing a shrinking and aging population.

Switzerland has distinct cultures within it yet a political system that provides accommodation for differences and very long standing traditions of democracy and justice ...no easy thing to maintain.

One reason I think Scotland would be better off outside the UK is a relatively unified culture stretching far back in time and education in their DNA. I'll offer as evidence :D

Trying to "export" traditions of democracy, justice outside of special interests, accessible education for all is difficult. Post wwII Japan might be an example of a sea change from an autocratic culture to a democratic one.

Abject defeat not a recommended path.

The Nordic nations certainly have their own bloody history even towards each other ...Norway as a slave state to Sweden hardly squares with our modern concept of those states. Somehow they transformed to admirable societies with high GINI coefficients with very little religion left and a highly educated populace.

China is bent on eliminating religion pretty brutally and creating a Orwellian surviellance society. Scary that. :?

Which kind of society do you think is likely to be more functional, cohesive and high trust, a multicultural one, or a homogeneous one?
