He never claimed it would be a new forum.

...still don't hold your breath for whatever.

If it is a "written from scratch" new bit of software it will be some sort of record if it is released on target.

Oi! I've been known to deliver new software on time. :what:

On 28th Feb, in RD's apology he said that the new website would be "launched in the next few weeks".

On the forum, the notice says "A new discussion section will be launched with the new website later this month" (ie March)

On the front page, earlier today, the Front Page Co-ordinator said the new website will be ready "hopefully soon, no date yet but we are getting closer"

So it looks like it's taking longer than they anticipated but it's still going to happen.

You have to have some sympathy for those still inside the Dawkins show. They have to maintain the "corporate front" whilst being aware of recent events.

Ask yourself the personal ethics question. Would you remain there?

However the prediction for two years down the track must be for a new whatever they finally invent to save face after having said they would have one. The attendance figures, given the draw of RD's name, will be moderately high and high enough for them to claim success. (Lets face it the art of spin means they will declare whatever they get as a success "beyond expectations" and 'truly vindicating our decision" . You could write the media releases now with blanks for the actual numbers.)

Then, for the cynics if there are any around, 2006>>2008(a poorly handled people related thing)>>2010(a poorly handled people thing) so is the cycle 2 years >>2012(a poorly handled people thing)

The basic problem of poor policy definition and strategic QA remains. With the same technocrats in the pivot roles. :nono:

"Prove" here is archaic for "test", as in proving bread dough. An exception tests the rule; if it exists, the rule fails and needs to be changed or abandoned. [/pedantry]

"The exception proves the rule" refers to the fact that, when there is an exception to a rule, the rule is assumed to exist. If I see a sign that says "Parking permitted here on weekends," I know there's a rule that I can't park there on a Tuesday. The exception proved the rule.

Are you sure you want to read it that way?

I've just been wandering the empty corridors of RD.net to see if there's any hint about the new set-up, and I came across this in the 'about this site' under resources.

Forum / Accounts
If it's your first time here, be sure to check out The Forum, which is growing every day by leaps and bounds. Create an account, and you can use it to post messages there in the forum or to comment on articles. We have a whole team of volunteer admins and moderators in the forum who are there to help if you have any questions. They can be contacted through the tech support forum.

:eh:

So, far from setting up a new discussion section, it looks as though they haven't even bothered to start clearing the cobwebs and dusting down the dormitories.

Pathetic.

You generally don't sell your old house before you've bought a new one. For one, where does the furniture goes. Exactly, it goes to the neighbours, rational skepticism and rationalia.. The longer this takes, the more (more) people will get settled here, and the more competition this new RDnet will have.

Richard should hire me. I'd hire me.

What do you mean? If the new RD.net site is not up in I'm going to giggle and smirk and think "How's those exciting new changes workin' for ya?" but not in a Palinesque way at all.

Yup, us English people stole it as we don't have a similar word. I wish there was an English equivalent as I am always unsure if I'm saying it right.
