In my thread in the CT forums, I've been exposing the BS my mate who thinks their is a GW conspiracy over there (and ribbing him sorely in the process. The one thing that gets me is it takes between 10 seconds to a minute and a half to find a website showing these claims to be absolute bollocks.

These people should be ashamed of themselves for not even taking the smallest look to see if what they just read is true or not.

Quite.
Attempting to copulate with a hadron collider might be a bit more than slightly inconvenient.

johnbrandt wrote:Careful now...I've found out the hard way that anything that looks like it might cast doubt on any aspect of global warming which is reported in any ordinary media source at all by anyone who doesn't have a list of letters after their name (even if they are directly quoting someone who does...) then you are in for a series of strong rebuttals and ridicule...

Which, at this stage of the game, is precisely as it should be.

Here we are fast approaching a time when the atmospheric GHG load will trap enough heat to push the Earth's mean annual temperture on a skyrocket ride from which there will be no turning back ... and which will disrupt our climate system in huge ways the consequences of which are almost too unbearable to imagine.

The time to act to curb and eventualy eliminate GHG emissions has long since past, assuming we would have preferred a more normal temperature regime going forward, long since past. We are too late to prevent a rise of at least 2C in Earth's mean annual temperature by the year 2100, and the reality is probably going to turn out closer to a 5 or 6C increase. That's already built-in by the contemporary GHG load.

So there is no time whatsoever for any continuation of the disinformation/fuzzification campaign that's been run down on us for the past 25 years by the fossil fuel industry, none, zero, zip, nada. And this is why you see the denizens of the denier cadre get bombed every time they open their mouths. They have nothing to offer, they have nothing relevant to say, and whenever they do speak it's always in service to the fossil fuel industry's agenda. They've had 20 years to make a case and they have not made a case, therefore, we can reasonably conclude there is no case to be made,

So yes, every damned one of them who dares to contribute to the fuzzification efforts of fossil fuels should be clubbed forthwith and driven from the world poste haste.

The time for debate is over, the time for action is now.

John thinks that his collection of media-quote mines are an argument against the accuracy of climate science. Don't bother refereeing him to scientific literature, if the author of that publication has made an exaggerated prediction on a dumbed down TV show, he is obviously on the payroll or something.

The funny thing about this thread is climate science "skeptics" calling global warming a religion, when in fact the author of this paper "blowing a gaping hole in global warming" is an intelligent design proponent. Speaks for itself...

Damnit, I've been quote mined!
As it was for a tacky joke, I excuse it. Tacky jokes, bad puns and so on are valid excuses for any level of stupid. Just don't do it when being serious (if that condition ever afflicts you). :naughty:

I've suggested this, and all I got in return was "laughter" or the simple liberal apologia..."we need to give the political process some time...we can't force everyone to do what is right because this would be authoritarian." Willhud suggested he'd take up arms against the government if Western governments were to adopt a semi-planned economy in order to combat global warming like we combated Hitler in WW2. We've got to be patient, we've got to let the political process move forward gradually, we've got to let the "free market" handle...all bollocks.

When I suggest "now or never" I'm supposedly an authoritarian. Oh well, if people are so keen to guarantee the end of human civilization, then so be it.

I don't care what you excuse.
Really I don't.

If you wish to you bad language, expect people to comment on it.
If this bothers you, you may cut out the expletives, and maybe people might take notice of what you're trying to say.

Free advice.

When I suggest "now or never" I'm supposedly an authoritarian. Oh well, if people are so keen to guarantee the end of human civilization, then so be it.

I can appreciate all of this but it doesn't change the facts. We're standing on the edge of the old times staring at the new times to come. The old times have been characterized by the so-called "free market" mantra and its attending unregulated dog-eat-dog free for all; the new times will be characterized by science-based systems that allow us to operate in accord with physical realities and common notions of human nature.

The old ways are dying hard but they are dying, mainly because they no longer work, no longer serve the greater needs of society and focus only on the privelaged few. It may well turn out to be a gut wrenching time with no little chaos and even some mayhem, but in the end, knowledge should prevail over ignorance. The rising tumult of the "Occupuy Wall Street" protests are a sign of things to come. In a year it could be "Occupuy Exxon,"

The proposed Keystone XL pipeline to bring Tar Sands crude to Texas will be a crucial test of where we stand today, in the immediate moment. That beast is a hallmark of the Old Times, a signature offering of the Old Times, and if it gets approved it could spark all kinds of protests, with Nebraska farmers joining youth on the firing lines.

I've said here many times that what I have called "crunch time" will occur sometime around the year 2020, a time when the climate crisis will be peaking, oil will be in short supply, and the evidence that we need to cut GHG emissions radically will have become overwhelming. The "crunch" sound we'll hear will be the Old Ways finally caving to the New Ways.

We simply cannot hope to move forward operating a 17th century economic system, that's just flat not going to work, and the evidence for it is everywhere around us right now.

We have to stick to our guns, "the time for debate is over, the time to act is now."
Capitalism is obsolete, yet we keep dancing with its corpse.
