Could this be some kind of reflection happening because of the camera lens (?)
Or something "natural"?

As I pointed the gun at the baby, I decided to add to the dramatic atmosphere.

This makes no sense. Light reflecting off of a camera lens is a perfectly natural phenomena, why would you suggest that there are exceptions to this, or that it "need not be natural"?

I'd guess it was something like ball lightning.

Edit: oh - the explanation is actually far cooler! :)
