And also her delivery where she ends some statements of fact on a raised note (she's not from Oz) in what appears to a patronizing manner. It jars my sensibilities.

So far, and interesting series.

I've started a new thread in the Islam section hoping for some 'Islamic clarification' of the views expressed in Bettany Hughes' part III of 'Divine Women' about the early role of women in Islam.
8500 plus women...

'Segregation of women has not come from Islam' - allegedly.

But as I asked in that link, is this the same process of segregation that also happened in Christianity, thereby giving us a misogynist society 'approved' by religions?

Bettany Hughes will be making a landmark documentary series for BBC Radio 4 this year. No indications yet on her website http://www.bettanyhughes.co.uk on the subject matter.

How is it that someone could come up with such a brainless concept that God could be anything other than genderless, yet the BBC takes them seriously? Fucking arseholes, BBC.

It seems to have escaped your perceptioin that in her series, Divine Women, Hughes traces religions as a historian, not a theologian. So, if you wish to label anyone as "fucking arseholes" stick it to the billions of people whose religious faith dictated that their respective gods were of one gender or another.

If God is an evolved organism who created this universe for shits and giggles it might well be male or female....or if it's a character from The Player Of Games an apex...or an AI...or something else entirely! Probs non-existent though methinks...and certainly, if existing at all, apathetic and/or powerless regarding the plight of we little bags of mostly water.

According to the three monotheistic religions, Christianity, Islam and Judaism, God is by definition not an evolved organism. I thought you knew that by now. I also thought you knew that the saintly jamest is some kind of a monotheist.

I did know that, but hadn't read the thread and wasn't talking to jamest, so was referencing "God" as in, er, the creator of the universe only. To be fair to myself however, that is pretty well the only role up for debate as to even possibly being God's work, once most theists are pushed on the subject, so, er, yeah, no crime here.
