I don't think that's right. I think it's an idea among many, which doesn't necessitate the end of time by a whole raft of definitions anyway.

Feel free to refute the second law of thermodynamics. It's only a theory, and I'm all ears.

aufbahrung has not settled on a definition, so why should we?

Here's a related tube. It's about 1/2 an hour and in 4K so should appeal to MacDoc. The wait for the last black hole to evaporate will be long and tedious and after that, no one knows for sure how/if any cycles will extend (active area of research &c)...

I think we should leave the goalposts where they are:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_deat ... e_universe
Current status
See also: Entropy § Cosmology, and Entropy (arrow of time) § Cosmology

Proposals about the final state of the universe depend on the assumptions made about its ultimate fate, and these assumptions have varied considerably over the late 20th century and early 21st century. In a hypothesized "open" or "flat" universe that continues expanding indefinitely, either a heat death or a Big Rip is expected to eventually occur.[1] If the cosmological constant is zero, the universe will approach absolute zero temperature over a very long timescale. However, if the cosmological constant is positive, as appears to be the case in recent observations, the temperature will asymptote to a non-zero positive value, and the universe will approach a state of maximum entropy.[8]

If a Big Rip does not happen long before that, the "heat death" situation could be avoided if there is a method or mechanism to regenerate hydrogen atoms from radiation, dark matter, dark energy, zero-point energy, or other sources so that star formation and heat transfer can continue to avoid a gradual running down of the universe due to the conversion of matter into energy and heavier elements in stellar processes and the absorption of matter by black holes and their subsequent evaporation as Hawking radiation.[9][10]

Yes, you're right; there are several theories regarding the future of the universe. I'm talking about the one that involves the end of time resulting from entropy. What exactly is your problem with that? Don't like that smug Brian Cox who seems unable to wipe that perennial smile off his face, or something? ;)

Nukes and climate change are real.

How is that equivalent to believing that a magical being outside of time and place is just about to wind up *his* cosmic plan for the universe and mortals therein?

Keep folks in line with what? I've never had any authority attempt to use the existence of nukes to keep me in line.

Drive on the correct side of the road or nukes might fall and wipe out substantial quantities of the Earth's biosphere, said no one ever.

I think you're conflating concepts that have no business being together, and so the onus would necessarily be on you to substantiate any links between them before they can become a serious argument to respond to.

I'd say nukes are no more real than satans arse until the day they are used. Such a black swan event would be beyond the cusp of reason, even if the probability is higher than the said arse.

You can say what you like - doesn't mean the content of your declaration contains anything of worth.

One exists, the other doesn't.

That's a pretty substantial difference.

Over 2000 tests by independent nations measuring the effectiveness of nuclear weaponry.

Any similar tests for Divine Judgement Day or Satan's rectal passage?

How does your argument stack up in the real world. If someone pointed a gun at your head, would you smirk and tell them you don't believe the bullet's real or can do you harm? Does it necessitate them pulling the trigger and the bullet smashing through your braincase before you acknowledge the validity of the threat?

Well, meteorite impacts would also have to be a Black Swan event too, and therefore beyond the cusp of reason, apparently!
