Not the end of complex life, just the end of some significant portion of biodiversity. Plenty of organisms will continue to thrive.

The problem with that scenario is that self-replicating nanobots already exist. They're called bacteria, and they've been around for billions of years without managing to consume the Earth.

Birds have been around for a while but only human designed space shuttles flew in space. Organised stupidity isn't natural to bacteria, it needs engineering into the little buggers.

My mater was quite smart. Pater could be a bit thick on occasion, but he was an engineer so that's not surprising.

I have NO BELIEF in the existence of a God or gods. I do not have to offer evidence nor do I have to determine absence of evidence because I do not ASSERT that a God does or does not or gods do or do not exist.

I wouldn't be surprised if bits of planet Earth found their way to other planets in the Solar system. Particularly after the dinosaur event.
