A god couldn't be doing it to test someone's faith if they had the ability to look into that person's heart and examine their faith, nor out of some fucked-up sense of insecurity (like a child being bad to test an adult's love) since the god doesn't really need people.

Likewise, a definitively perfect One True God god can't really have been badly-brought up to see abuse as Right, or be too dumb to realise it's wrong, or too lacking in empathy to understand people are hurting, or otherwise mentally deficient.

Equally, a One True God god would presumably be big enough to rise above any seeming unintentional provocation, and would understand that the total asymmetry in power terms placed them in a position of responsibility even if a human was 'asking for it' for as a result of having a screwed-up psychology.

I'm really not sure what is left beyond actual sadism, or some kind of desire to promote disbelief (for reasons of future sadism?)
