Exactly. Its a delaying tactic. "You can't say we're not doing anything, or being indecisive, we're holding a non-binding poll."

What, like our "non-binding" Brexit referendum?

I suspect that the Eurosceptic wing of the Tory party is using the slim majority for Brexit to push its anti-European agenda through.

It's worse than the Brexit referendum, I'm afraid.

It can't be a referendum, because there's no change to the constitution required. It can't be a plebiscite because there's no way the government can get support for a plebiscite in the Senate.

So we're having an expensive, optional response (hence non-representative), $122 million postal survey without a parliamentary vote to authorise the spending of $122 million (it would fail if they tried). As such, the whole enterprise may come crashing down under High Court challenge to its validity.

To understand our current government, you need to understand that whatever you can come up with as the worst possible way of doing anything, they'll find an even worse way that you either didn't think of, or dismissed as impossibly stupid.

Some of them are, but with most of them their venality and petty spitefulness makes the word drongo is far too kind.

In that case, we weren't on the same page, because I was referring to the actual Brexit referendum, which can't be "worse than the Brexit referendum".

It's spelled galahs. Which is a kind of cockatoo with the coloring of an enchanting sunset.

And no. I think we're dealing here with a rather more exotic species: the bloodsucking spineless shitbird.

I had the singular pleasure of seeing these drongos on two separate TV programmes yesterday. They pulled their two children out of school because another boy came wearing a dress. Their entire justification seems to be that other children will get confused about whether to call them 'he' or 'she'. I dunno, if their kids get confused by such a thing, perhaps they're not cut out for main stream education anyway. I mean, what are they gonna do when they have to decide whether to use 'there' or 'their'?

Entirely agree. WTF kids get confused all the time it is called growing up. Finally society is moving from stereotyping kids to allowing them to be what the like and idiots like these want to turn the clock back because of no 'safeguards'. Kids clothes are just that kids clothes.

It is, in fact, the parents who are confused about how to handle the situation. A clear indication from them that they understand the situation and aren't confused by it themselves and the kids wouldn't have an issue (at home anyway).

From the inane apologist Daniel Haqiqatjou:
"All religions are the same.”

Oh really? Which other religion recognizes that Allah descends every night to the lowest heaven in the last third of the night?

My response:
"All religions are the same.”

Oh really? Which other religion recognizes that Zeus had a son called Hercules who completed 12 great works?
