That explains it, then. Google translate performs slightly worse at simple translation tasks than a drunk monkey banging away on a keyboard. It is very creative though. It translated "English milk" into "milk in English".

I find it excellent for translating things into your native language.

For example I have been receiving some work emails in Spanish, I can run them through google translate and then make sense of them because I understand its limitations and that the people I am receiving it from aren't retards.

The stuff that goes the other way is translated through a native speaker.

No,

I put this into google translate:

I hate stupid French milk, do you get it from pigs? It makes me sick, where can I get normal English milk in this shit country?

 Well I put it back into a different translator, and got this:

I detest the milk stupid French, do you gather pigs? This makes me ill, where can I acquire shit from some normal milk in English in this country?

Tempting, SB, but I think I'd rather not have my holiday marred by - um - the consequences.

I'm going to follow Katja's idea and put these phrases on a little card to keep in my bag.

No sweat - this one literally translates to "I do not tolerate dairy products." Should cover all of your needs - or what you don't need any of in this case.

Sans lait s'il vous plaît (ou pas de lait s'il vous plaît). Je fais une intolérance au lactose.
Without milk please (or no milk please). I canno't tolerate lactose.

That's how I say it!

Between what i think , what i want to say ,what i believe i say ,what i say , what you want to hear , what you hear ,what you understand...there are lots of possibilities that we might have some problem communicating. But let's try anyway.
