Understood. The thread doesn't appear to be proceeding as it did all those moons ago anyways, which was my fear.

Help help!
I forgot my MacBook password so opened a terminal after reboot. Here I should be able to create a new one but I’m given three options and don’t know which I have to use..

You can’t see it but there’s another option to “exit to recovery utilities”

any important data on there?

I‘ve never seen that screen, so I guess use an alternative device to search on a Mac user forum.

I can't stand their 'Look at us! Look at us!' attitude. We're so user friendly. Aren't you happy to pay our prices?

I have the little Mac model that has the built-in screen and 3.5" disk drive. I didn't have to pay retail for it, I picked it up for free on the side of the road back in the day. (I may have already made that joke in the thread but it's years old and I didn't go back to check :dopey:)

I've never had a modern MAC. I don't have anything against them, I just go for what I consider is a better deal. "Moving in" to a new computer is hard enough even with the type of software I'm already used to. I used my last pc for almost 10 years.

IIRC it does, but I've never run any software on it. It's part of my shed/museum right now. I also have an Apple II that I played around with about 20 years ago.

So I talked to my niece again, basically told her what I gathered here, and well .. it has to be pretty, nice color, thin, no or little frames around the display, long battery life, light. I am not gonna lecture her so the cheapest MacBook (2020) will probably be the choice.

I suggested this:

https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/ch ... romebook2/

for $550

and she likes it, its pretty :), but we are not in the US and local Samsung does not even offer it yet so I dunno as she wants to get it by the end of Feb +/-.

Good suggestion) I love mine.
A practical benefit to the 4K screen is less eyestrain. Not sure why, I'm guessing maybe my eyes don't have to constantly adjust to the aliasing when the pixels get that small. My eyes get no less tired than when using an e-reader.
