I agree, although my description of the circumstances is accurate. Perhaps the new installation dicked around with something in my registry. The wireless connection said it was connected, but I couldn't actually connect.
On what operation system are you? If you're on Win XP you could try WinSockFix
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Netw ... kFix.shtmlRun it and click on fix, make sure to make a Registry backup before that (the tool has a button for this).
It'll refresh all TCP related settings on your machine.
